Last night I had a dream.
No, not quite as profound as Martin Luther King's Dream, which was 45 years old a few weeks ago.
But, I do know my dream was a subtle message from the Universe, through my subconscious. I've taken
a 3 month Sabbatical that is coming to an end on Sept. 22. The purpose has been to step back, stop doing most of what I've been doing and reassess what makes my heart sing so that when I re-emerge, I'll be focused and know exactly what serves to bring bliss and what I'll say adios to.
It's been a very fun and enlightening 3 months. Lots of bliss... I've learned some new things and learned a lot about myself. I'll be sharing more about this in the coming weeks. I'll let you know which things will stay and which things will go.
I am reading two books right now, The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss and Money and The Law of Attraction by Jerry & Ester Hicks. My dream, I think came from some new thinking that was a combination of the messages of those books. I am preparing for the Relax and Attract TeleConference and these two books are right on target for my content.
The Ferriss book, among other delightful things like mini-retirement, focuses on the 80/20 Pareto principle by having you spend your working time on the 20% of the activities that produce 80% of your results. Then you outsource or let go of the other 80%. This is exactly what my sabbactical has been about! Love it!
The Hicks book is also right on target for me. Using our own internal guidance systems and becoming hyper-aware of our thoughts, we can get rid of the negative and focus on the positive, thereby drawing more positive to us. Sometimes, it seems too easy: Do what feels good. Stop doing what doesn't! Don't you love it when your mind gets stretched?
Okay...back to my dream: I woke up laughing. I was watching a football game. Suddenly the ref said ,"The Rules have changed!" He said," everyone on the field has to take another position". He had them rotate 2 positions from where they were and play like that. Now, I am not into football very technically (Though I was raised going to see the Colts and Johnny Unitas in the heyday of Baltimore football), but I do know that each position takes certain skills and it wouldn't be easy to play a position that you don't have the experience for.
The players tried to play their new positions but funny things kept happening and before long, everyone was laughing. I am sure in real life that wouldn't have happened with the competitiveness of sports but in my dream, these players got it...they saw it was just a game and they could lighten up and have fun. Be silly, even, and that's what they did. They could have gotten mad or frustrated the rules weren't the same or that it wasn't fair, but they just accepted it and started finding a way to have it be fun!
When I woke up laughing, I realized I read a passage in the Hick's book right before I went to sleep that suggested in any situation, no matter how dire, we had the ability to choose our response and to have it bring something positive rather than negative into our lives. So, I saw I was getting a very BIG message that it is time to LIGHTEN UP!!!!!!
Find the rainbows and dance naked in the rain, if that is fun! The truth is that right now, today, things are just fine and a little rain is just the magic that makes the rainbows happen!
I like the notion of taking another player's position. What a neat perspective we would have if we traded roles with others, even for a day at a time. A broker and an agent can trade jobs for a day... what interesting notions might reveal themselves.
How about a a real estate agent role playing with a buyer or a seller ... asking the client to pretend he is the agent for a discussion, and switch places for an hour-long discussion.
Or a business partner? Or a family member or friend?
I would love to play with this idea ...
This is a wonderful inspirational post, Joeann! You are the BEST!
