A few weeks back I wrote a short post about a couple who I met at our model home at Ashley Manor, in Vancouver Washington. The long and the short of it is that I spend a lot of time in model homes as a real estate agent here in Vancouver Washington and I have the great opportunity to meet some wonderful people. Bill and Bette are two of those people.

This morning I drove to Ashley Manor, opened the door to the model, loaded all of my open house signs into the back of my car and started down the drive. As I reached the bottom, I noticed Bill walking along the street. Of course I said ‘Hello" and asked how he was doing. He said that he was just fine and kept walking along his way.

It was then that I noticed that he was carrying a small tack hammer, a nail, and a bell. I asked him what he was working on and he told me that he was going to put the bell on his mailbox. I asked him why and he shot me a look like I was the biggest dumb @$$ in all of Vancouver!

"Well, I am putting this bell on my mailbox so that I can tell when my mail arrives." He politely told me. (He still had the "you're a dumb @$$ look on his face, though!) I am half surprised that he didn't end it by referring to me as "Mr. Smarty Pants!"

Now right about now, you are probably wondering what is so strange about the whole bell on the mailbox thing and I am going to tell you.

Firstly, we live in a relatively rural part of Vancouver Washington that used to be covered with dairy farms. His mailbox is at least 250 yards from his house!

Secondly, he has hearing aids behind each ear that are about the size of VW Beattles!

Nothing beats life at Ashley Manor and I wouldn't trade the neighbors for the world!
