Yesterday morning as we enjoyed a rare (these days with school and work schedules being what they are) family breakfast we looked out the front window to see these two handsome fellows enjoying a treat at our pear tree.
How cool, Paddy! We have skunks that love to nibble - especially on my corn, okra, and tomatoes in my vegetable garden. Does that count as lovely?

Only another skunk could think that a skunk is lovely, LOL. Thanks for the comment.
Paddy, I was smiling at your pictures! I love just when I'm getting far enough upstate and see my first "deer crossing" sign....we don't have them at all where I am. Fortunately they are still out east on the Island--but not here and they are such beautiful animals.
Paddy- As I am writing this my husband and I are lookin at a doe and fawn laying in our backyard- Yesterday he saw Bear "droppings" that are new since he mowed last week- the deer are beautiful but bumping into a bear is not exactly what I am looking forward to-
This is a great post for your "Moving to the Country" series!
Paddy, like my mom said, this looks like her yard. She has an entire family of deer that live and sleep in her backyard. They're completely tame and aren't afraid of us or my mom's dog. They're so funny, whenever I go to my mom's house, I get the kids out of the car, and walk in the house, and I look up and say, "Oh, hello deer." They just look back. Gotta love it!!
Great photos Paddy. I have yet to see the buck around here. I know that we have to have some as there are 2 does with yearlings. Last year I did see a 6 pointer...
Hi Carole, I just sold a house to a woman who was moving to Middletown (a small city) up here and we were surprised at the number of deer we saw in that more urban environment. Maybe your deer are there, they just are better at finding hiding spots.
Yes Mel the deer are here along with turkey, pheasant, coyote, fox, and bear. I like seeing the deer and the birds. The others I can do without.
Cover the garbage Barbara. The bears can really make a mess of that. It is great to look out the window and see so much though.
We have a herd here too Becky. I love seeing the babies of all the wildlife around here. We also have a whole flock of bluebirds that hang out. I have been trying to get a picture for a while but they are fast. People tell me they are becoming more rare but not at my house.
I was surprised that these two guys hang out together but they do, Michael.
Paddy - how nice it is to have nature share your yard, unless they get into your tomatoes and cukes and flowers, and then you want to have nature for dinner or breakfast, a little deer sausage and eggs.
Dan has been making jerky with our left overs from last year Mike. Hunting helps to thin the population so they don't starve to death in the winter. I am not against it but I don't like to think about it too much.
Paddy, Nice photos. We just had three deer in our backyard this past week. There have been times when we've seen eight walking through the yard. Always enjoy seeing them.
We are seeing a lot of does with two or three fawns this year around here. Hope winter is kind to them. Thanks for the comment Gary
