Lately I have visited blogs that have been enhanced by music, and there are some great posts out there from members sharing how to do this.

Do you think music on your blog is a good thing or potentially a problem?

My first thought was that it was nice and set the blog apart from the rest.  But what if the reader does not care for the song?  What if someone is at work, sneaking a little personal internet surfing time, and the music cranks up?  Another concern is that the page load time is slowed considerably.

Do you think by having music on your blog you might lose a reader?

For the most part, I find it to be rather intrusive and annoying. Invariably, it pops up late at night when I'm alone at my computer, and it scares the crap out of me!

I would say non-offensive music would be best, and as long as it pertains to your site and does not distract from your actual content or message, then it is fine.  Load time is an issue, but usually the user can just pause the music if it is interfering.  I do think that music can make a page more exciting.

For blog pages, or pages heavy with text, I think music for the most part can be annoying.  Unless it is something soft, without words, it can be distracting to try to read posts or contribute if there is something playing in the background.  But I do not think the music would deter anyone that is actually interested in the site from visiting it ever again.  Simply disable the music and proceed...

I'm with Rich.  It is startling to me when it's unexpected (all the time) and makes the boyfriend cut his eyes at me when all of a sudden the beach boys is blaring from my laptop.

No music here...I don't like the added load times and I don't like the startle I get when it starts playing unexpectedly! :)

No music!  There are a couple of AR members who have music that starts every time I visit their page and it annoys the crap out of me - so I don't read their blogs anymore.  If I was a consumer, I wouldn't bother to return to a page that loaded slowly and then blared music at me.  If i want to hear music, I'll turn on the radio.

It can be very shocking when the music comes on unexpectedly! Like you mentioned; slow load time, surfing at work, etc. The effect could be very pleasant, but the risks outweigh the rewards-

Hi everybody and thanks for your comments!  So far it looks like the overwhelming opinion is JUST SAY NO TO BLOG MUSIC.  Come to think of it, my first reaction is being startled also, I just usually have the sound down so it has never scared me.

No to a Noisy Blog; Drives me crazy - I have to wait for the load, find the mute button, or turn my speakers off...... If I want to hear music, I'll turn my CD Player on.

Generally speaking I've found website and blog music to be an annoyance.   It distracts the mind from concentrating on reading or viewing the message.   For others who are not viewing the computer it can be annoying as well.    Silence is golden.

I like music, but I think it's a distraction.  I'm not at the site long enough to appreciate it.

I've seen a couple of other posts asking this question, and I think the overwhelming response has been for no music.  It is just too distracting.  Besides if someone is surfing at work during the day they likely have it muted, so it's a waste anyway.

I think music is OK for certain types of posts and certainly helps if you have the option of turning it on or off. If there is material to read, the music tends to get on the way. If it is mainly pictures and videos, it's nice cause it fills the void. Anyway, that's just my opinion. I like quiet when I'm reading. :-)

No Music. Drives me crazy. Just my opinion, but then I do put music with my listing videos, so maybe I should practice what I preach?

Another vote for no music. What are the chances your reader will have the same taste in music a you?

That would be a NO for me as well. I thought it was just me.  If I'm visiting an informational type site, it's distracting. If I'm visiting entertainment sites, it's okay. Even then I'd prefer to start the music when I'm ready to listen. For that reason I keep my computer muted.

I agree, music is slow to load, distracting, and not necessary to one's taste. Forget the music!

Music on almost any web site or blog will lose me every time. It drives me nuts. If I wanted to listen to music, I'd turn it on in my office. And then, if I do already have music playing in my office, if I click on a site that's playing music, I now have an even more annoying conflict. Even on MySpace, where almost everyone has music on their page, the first thing I do is look for the mute button ASAP!

I vote NO to noisy blogs !  If I'm very interested in the topic, I'll reduce the volume, but generally just hit the back button and get out of there real quick !!!  Do the same with the flashing backgrounds.  Gives me an instant headache, in which case, no matter how interesting the post is, I leave immediately !

Great to know that I'm not the only one though !

I vote no as well...it is slower to load and I do think people surf during work and would not want music playing just in case...
