Arizona City Mail
![Chaos in The Post Office]()
Those
of you living in
Arizona
City will understand what this post is all about.
Arizona City
does not get street delivery with the post office for mail.
Every day, except Sunday, those of us that reside in Arizona
City have to go to the post office to get our mail. If we
happen to receive a package there is a yellow card in our box and we
have to go inside and stand in line to obtain that package.
Sometimes I have had to wait in line for 45 minutes for 1
package.
As a property manager having a high number of Arizona City properties,
I have an increasing amount of complaints from new tenants moving into
the area. One recent complaint I have had is a couple moving
into the area that are split, one working in Phoenix and the other
Tucson. Both would be getting home after 5pm and thus the
post office would be closed. If they were to get a package
they would be unable to retrieve that package unless one of them took
off work or if the package is delivered UPS. By having
a package delivered with UPS it would be sitting on their
front porch, unsecured, until they arrived at home.
Then there are the complaints from residents and I am sure if you live
here you will understand. The lines are terribly long, the
service is generally slow, the employees are not always
friendly/knowledgeable and packages are lost quite a bit or take a
really long time to arrive at their intended destinations. I
personally have mailed certified letters there for 5 Day Pay or Quits
that have taken a week to get delivered (most of the letters were for
AZ City residents) and I have also mailed certified letters to clients
in California which have taken over a month to get delivered.
I started mailing them certified just to track the letters.
During the Christmas season it gets even worse if you could believe
that. Packages are left all over and the employees have a
hard time finding the ones they need to give you. I have had
yellow slips put in my box for packages that have been at the post
office for days even a couple of weeks before. I have
received yellow slips and when going to the counter was informed I had
no packages. I have also went to the counter to mail items
and discovered I had items there waiting with no yellow cards.
On top of all of these issues there is the constant problem with having
no boxes available. Sometime around a year to a year and a
half ago the PO moved locations due to the growing population in AZ
City and lack of space for more boxes. Within it's first
month at the new location the post office was out of boxes.
The post office keeps track of all available, and rented
boxes, on sheets of notebook paper which are often out of order and
names whited out all over them from residents which have turned in
their box keys.
Recently a new addition to our company rented one of my rental
properties and had to go and obtain a po box from the post office in Az
City since it was an AZ City property. She moved in May 1st I
believe and just received her box about 3 weeks ago.
Until she received her box she had to have all of
her mail delivered to general delivery and had to pick her mail up
personally every day at the counter, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm and
Saturday's 8am - 12pm.
I personally am not fond of going to the post office every
day. The area around the post office is always congested.
I believe since the post office moved locations from Sunland
Gin Rd. to Battaglia the situation has been worse. The post
office is located at the end of the fitness center in town and the
parking area is always crowded.
The vote in 2006 to obtain street delivered was not favorable and so we
have had to endure the post office situation. In June 2008
there was a town meeting for obtaining street delivery once
again. Recently, within the last week, residents received a
letter from the Phoenix Post Office stating that once again we will get
to vote on street delivery. All ballots have to be mailed
directly to the Phoenix Post Office and will not be accepted by the AZ
City Post Office or via fax.
If AZ City ends up with street delivery residents would have to
retrieve packages from Casa Grande which seems unfair, but at least we
would be able to get our mail at home. No more rushing home
everyday to make it before 5 in case a package is there or having to go
out every Saturday. We would be able to just sit and wait for
our mail to come to us.
I have sent in my vote...VOTE YES
TO STREET DELIVERY!!!
