Many in real estate make the fatal mistake of purchasing a real estate domain name but never taking the time to research the absolute best possible domain name.  Choosing the right domain name serves you in more than one way.  Since some search engines index via the domain you have, the better name may give you a boost in web position or for a very specific term may get you on page one!  That is what everyone hopes for isn't it?  Well if you choose the wrong domain name you may defeat your own goals, and lose the battel of creating an Intenret business.

Since I own over 150 domain names, I do a lot of research before I buy. I really prefer only top level domain names, and will only purchase those that fit my criteria.  Over the years I have employed several tools that I really like, but I came across a new one this evening that I really like and thought I would share it with you.  Even if you do not like the names they offer, the generation of names is like a mini brain storming session that may allow you to choose something incredible.  MakeWords.com also offers a keyword filter. You can search for terms, and place in "real estate" keyword theme.  This allows the search to be more geared to offering solutions that are more real estate related domains.

Good tips for selecting domain names.  I have been not put as much effort in that as I should have.

Randy L. Prothero - Hawaii REALTOR® (Century 21 Liberty Homes) Thanks.  I found a very strong correlation between the name you choose, and potential search engine placement.  It is also a great aid in branding.

Great information! For newbies like me this is really and truly a very helpful blog. Everytime I look to buy another domain name, it feels like all the good ones are taken. Next time I'll be looking closely. Thanks!

Good evening Jim,

Domain names are kind of like raw land.  You are wise to have done your research and then invested.  Thanks for the link.  I had not seen that one before.  Hopefully your informative post will encourage many Active Rainers to investigate the open domains for their local market.  I've heard agents claim that "all the good names are taken in my area".  However, when I do some research, I almost always find that several solid options are still available.

Respectfully,

Bruce

cool tool -- will try it out -- don't forget to use single property domains or the address to promote a flyer or website for the specific house too.

Jim, this couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.  I am gearing up and getting ready to purchase some domain names, but have been afraid to pull the trigger due to my lack of knowledge as to what would optimize my position on the search engines.  I can't wait to check out makewords.com.  Thanks.
