A HEARTFELT EMAIL

By
Home Inspector with H.I.S. Home Inspections (Summit, Stark Counties)

Please read the following, knowing that I found out it was a scam after I posted it. Also, please know that the poem contained herein is an altered version of one written by Sally Meyer in 1999. I have included her original version in a comment below, with her permission.

There is great content, even though the email part is a scam, so pleas read all the comments as well. Thanks for your understanding, (Kevin)

Today, one of my friends sent me the following email, which touched me, and I hope it touches you too.

I have sent it to my saved address list, maybe you can do the same to help a young girl with cancer.

To My Daughter - by an OK. Police Officer

'TO MY DAUGHTER' (AOL IS TRACKING THIS) PLEASE DO

THIS WILL HIT YOU WHERE IT HURTS!

*Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you up and take you to the park to play.

*Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together.

*Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.

*Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck and I will buy you one if he comes by.

*Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.

*Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over you trying to fix them.

*Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.

*Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you were born and how much I
love you.

*Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.

*Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.

*Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss my favorite TV shows.

*Just for this evening when I run my finger through your hair as you pray, I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given.

*I will think about the mothers And fathers who are searching for their missing c hildren, the mothers and
fathers who are visiting their children's graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching
their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't handle it anymore.

*And when I kiss you good night I will hold you a little tighter, a ittle longer. It is then, that I will thank God for you, and ask Him for nothing, except one more day............

* Hi. I am a 29 year old father. Me and my wife have had a wonderful life together. God blessed us with a child too.

Our daughter's name is Rachel, and she is 10 years old.

Not long ago the doctors detected brain cancer in her little body.

There is only one way to save her and that is an operation.

Sadly we don't have the money for the operation.

AOL and Zdnet have agreed to help us. The only way they can help is this:

If you send this email to other people, AOL will track this email and count how many people get it. Every person that opens this email and sends it to at least 3 people will give us 32c.

Please help us.

Wow, I don't understand why anyone would go through the trouble to write a fictucious story like this. I guess I have been duped. I did not know about snopes.com though. That will help in the future, thanks!

I am going to leave this post up anyway, so other people will know about the hoax. Have a great day!

I still like a lot of the sentiments expressed here, so I guess there is value in that as well.

The email may be false but the words are true.

Last March, my Rachel Iris was so sick.  She was diagnosed with renal failure.  For two weeks, we were at Duke Children's Hospital.  We were on the cancer floor.  I just knew that we were going to get the news.....

I prayed every night.  If she would be okay, I would stop.  Stop working so late.  Stop those "girls nights out." Stop putting work before family.  Stop rushing through life.  Start being a better mommy.  Start being a better wife.

She is happy and healthy now.  We go back in March to see the effects on her kidney.  She is still on blood pressure meds.

I take her to school in the mornings.  I tuck her in at night.  I leave the office at 5:00.  Clients now work around my family time.

Thank God it wasn't the C word.  I thank God everyday for that second chance.

Katie, May God bless you and Rachel Iris. Things like this really help to make you stop and think about your life and all you have done, or should do, or want to do. Keep the family time as first and foremost always.

Thanks Cherimie,

I was actually a little saddened to think that this was some kind of hoax, but I am sure there are many others out there that are not, and the words are still inspiring for those who need them.

Thanks for the kind words.  It was a life altering moment to say the least.  I didn't even realize the patterns that I has slipped into!

I guess things are not always what they appear to be at first, but then some good can still come from it.

I will definitely check this Snopes link the next time, and then I won't get so much egg on my face...lol

It only took me about 90 seconds to find a quote from Brian Swim - the dad:  “It’s definitely a hoax,” said Swim. “It started two to three years ago, and I didn’t even have a child at the time.”

With Sally's permission, here is her original poem"

Just for this day.

Just for this morning, I am going to smile whenever I see your face.
and laugh when I feel like crying.

Just for this morning, I will let you wake up softly, all rumpled in your
flannel and I will hold you until you are ready.

Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear, and
smile and say you're beautiful.

Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you
up and take you to the park to play.

Just for this morning, I am going to eat a huge breakfast , with bacon
eggs, toast and waffles, and you don't have to eat any.

Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you
teach me how to put that 100 piece puzzle together.

Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the
computer off, and sit with you in the garden blowing bubbles.

Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble
when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck, and I will buy you one if he comes by.

Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be
when you grow up or who you might have been before your diagnosis.

Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't
stand over you trying to 'fix' things.

Just for this afternoon, I will let you put all kinds of barettes in my
hair, and put lipstick on my face, and I will tell you how pretty you have made me look.

Just for this afternoon I will take you to McDonalds and buy us both a
Happy meal so you can have both toys.

Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story
about how you were born, and how much we love you.

Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the bathtub and not get
angry when you throw water over your sister's head.

Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the
porch swing and count all the stars.

Just for this evening, I will bring you glasses of water, and snuggle
beside you for three hours and miss my favorite show on t.v.

Just for this evening, When I kneel down to pray, I will simply be
grateful for all that I have and not ask for anything, except

just one more day.

Thank You Sally!

If all parents would treat their kids like that mom in that poem, there would be a LOT of better adjusted children in the world....

=-)

Letting a child BE a child is a GREAT way to tell them you love them....

Helping them grow up (mature) as they are able to is part of being a parent....

It is a tightrope at times....

Well, I see that everything I would have said has been said, and Sally has even been here herself. I've had a copy of her poem in my "this is cool" collection since around 2001.

A great way to tell if an email is a hoax is if they ask you to pass it on to _____ people because _____ is tracking it and will give them or you _____ money.
