Tough Love vs. Spanking - Good Argument

Most of America  's populace think it improper to spank children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of 'those moments.'

One that I found effective is for me to just take the child for a car ride and talk.

Some say it's the vibration from the car, others say it's the time away from any distractions such as TV, Video Games, Computer, IPod, etc.

Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our car ride together.

I've included a photo below of one of my sessions with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

Sincerely,

 Your Friend

I think this will work with grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as well.

Laurie, my whole family busted out laughing and then Breana said "You wouldn't try that would you dad?"  Then it got real funny around here.  She's 10, and sometimes she has us rolling.

Sherry, that kind of goes along with if the switch doesn't work, use the whole tree.  My grandmother use to send me after my own hickory, it was the little ones that really hurt. lol

Brooke, I think I had seen it before too, but it was so long ago I had forgotten it and fell for it all over again.  Glad it made you laugh.

I think we let our kids get away with murder these days - here comes the "back in the day" speech....

I can totally visualize my 6 year old son Emmett on the hood of that car & have been in similar situations with him more times than I would care to recall.    But, when I try to visualize myself at the same age doing something like that - there would have been NO WAY.  My parents would have never allowed anything even remotely like that - we were seen and not heard & grew up to learn our place and have RESPECT for our parents and other elders.....yadayada.    But, although today myself and many parents "respect" the rights of our kids, are we teaching them to respect us?   If they feel comfortable enought to totally freak and spaz out in public while we're trying to "reason" with them and "talk it out" - something is wrong I think.

Spanking as a punishment just feels awful to me, but I admit that administering a swift whack to the rear end as a punctuation mark to a statement given during a reprimand can be quite effective.  It definitely gets their attention. I feel a little more old fashioned discipline and a little less reasoning might be a good thing. I think I better go bake some cookies to appease my guilty conscience for saying such things about my wee darlings!! :-)

Just as a PS - I have a great video of my son slamming his door and screaming I HATE YOU!!! that I always threaten to send in to AFV - think I'll save that for when he's getting married!

Angela, I think we both must have grown up "Back in the Day"  and as a school bus driver I am really amazed at the lack of respect for adults.... enough said about that.

Are we talking about spanking our clients or children.  Sometimes the behavior is the same.  Love the photo.  Both of them.  Just goes to show photoshop is good!
