As a Realtor in Burlington County New Jersey, I have learned some tricks of the trade the hard way.  My Burlington Township clients benefit from what I have learned and I thought I would share with you.

This is part 3 of my series called The Benefit of My Wisdom.   If  you happened to miss the beginning of the series, no worries, you can read Part #1 here

Here's Part 3. Enjoy.

 Buy A Full Spectrum Lamp

Winter is coming.  Days are shorter.  The average real estate agent is selling less real estate.  There are no real signs that the market will have improved by this winter.  These three things can really have a negative affect on the average person's mood.  This condition has been identified as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)  In recent years, full-spectrum lighting has been used in the treatment of  (SAD) through the use of "light boxes" that mimic natural sunlight, which may not be available in some areas during the winter months.

Buy one of these lamps now and put it on your desk (yes I have one one in my home office).  Even if it doesn't help your mood, they are great reading lamps.

Proclaim Your success (Write A Press Release)

bull horn

You MUST learn to toot your own horn.  Trust me when i tell you that no one is going to do it for you.  Now I don't mean that you should be braggadocios, cocky or obnoxious.  You MUST learn to be humble and at the same time, tell everyone about your success.  Now I know what you are going to say, "Leander, I have not sold any real estate.  What's there to brag about".

Success is relative.  If you think about it, I am sure that there is something that you have done that you could talk about.  Starting with your newly attained license.

Learn to write a press release.  There are many resource materials that will teach you how to write a press release.  The first two press releases you should write should be 1) YOUR NAME has just completed all of the requirements for license in YOUR STATE 2) YOUR NAME has decided to join XYZ realty.  Every time you take a class, attend a seminar, get a certification, write about it.  As you write, explain how what you have just done will benefit your clients.  Remember, what you write on-line stays around for many years.  Five years from now, you will have a body of work created by you which tells your potential clients that YOU are a professional and that YOU have been continually learning.

Post your releases to your blog and websites (there are free press release sites)

When You Are Having A Bad Day, Find Someone To Help

Despite all of the positivity that I preach, there will be days when everything seems to be going wrong.  You will feel terrible and you will not be motivated.  Those are the days that you should find someone else to help.  Volunteer at a local soup kitchen, help the elderly, help you neighbors...anyone.  You will find that when you help others who are less fortunate than you, your own problems don't look so bad. In the end, you will have done a good deed and you will feel better.
