I'll just have to sort through all of my own personal SEO stupidity things and see what I can enter!  Thanks Kay.

Ok, lets see I just had a Blogging directory reject my site because I only post about real estate. Therefore it wasn't a blog.

A directory submission service submitted my site to a directory that is only intereseted in sites in S Africa.

I have a site that I've done next to nothing on that has PR4, one that I am busting my tail on that has PR0 and one I haven't touched in 3 years with PR2. Where 's the sense in that?

Do any of these qualify for SEO stupid?

I would say that this definitely places it well into the stupidity arena! Please do submit it! The most creative story will get that iPod Touch :)

Oh it is tempting. I could use one. Most of the stories I have involve companies trying to scam agents and the ways they present themselves.

I have a few that involve the typical scams and how they try to convince agents how much money they will make and all we need to do is pay up-front a few hundred or thousand dollars.

The stupid SEO stories are the salespeople who steal your number off here and call you up claiming they can get you #1 for a weird real estate term in your area that no human would ever be searching for that has such a long tail that if you wrote a single blog entry using those key words you would place number one in your area and probably number one in the world and yet they have the gaul to tell you that you must not want more business if you dont agree with them and pay for the stupid service.

Now that should win for longest answer!

My favorite was a call I got from a guy who was trying to convince me that for a couple thousand he could get me on the first page of google by submitting my website to search engines every month. He was trying to convince me that you  get higher rankings the more often you resubmit your website, and that it would be worth it to me because I would save a lot of time by having him do it. The funny thing was that my site allready ranked #1 in google for the term Logan Utah Homes for Sale.....

That seems to be a real problem in the SEO field.  There are those that truly know how SEO works, and can help, but there are so many others who have no clue, and are willing to take your money.  For people who don't understand SEO, how can they tell the good from the bad?

Alan, THAT is a great story!  I guess I do not give them enough time to talk to come up with a good tale!
