I went to the Nashville Home & Remodeling Show this last weekend.  It had some great new and interesting things for the home.

Here's the one I was really impressed with, now it's been around for awhile, but I had never really looked at one or talked to someone about them.

It's The Tankless Water Heater

You get endless hot water, you only heat the water you need, when you need it, you can get 240 or more gallons per hour with NO recovery time..  This has got to be the wave of the future and talk about "Green".  You can get them for use with gas or electric

They say that you can get up to 40%, yes I said 40% energy savings.  That's because when there is NO demand for hot water the tankless unit shouts down and uses no energy.  And you don't have to worry about the tank leaking and flooding your home.

Now you can take a shower, run the washing machine and dishwasher  and still have hot water.

They are so small and take up very little room, not much bigger than a suitcase, not the big one a carry on.

So homeowner's next time you are in the market for a water heater, check these out.  They cost a little more than a conventional water heater, but with the savings you should be able to re-coup the extra cost and don't forget no more cold showers.

Hi Doris, we've looked at these for the house we just bought because the kitchen is so far from the water heater.  Lots of wasted water waiting for it to get hot.  Unfortunately, we learned that it takes a few seconds to start up and you need a full flow... no on-again, off again... and no "barely on" flow.  So, not so good for washing dishes in the sink or just brushing teeth.

However, these are still great in places short on space (common in Japan) and places you are going to run the water full throttle for several minutes, like filling up a tub.

Doris  -- this sounds like the wave of the future. I know the technology will get better and better - it always does. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Doris,

Like you, I have known about these hot water sources, but just haven't checked into the detail. I will next time I have to replace the water heater though.

I keep hearing about these, but the ones I have seen in the past were not worth the water run throught them.

You would almost have to build a home new, or wait until your hot water heater goes to get this thing and make it pay off quickly.

We are committed to getting a tankless hot water heater when ours dies. They make such perfect sense to me. Why pay to heat that water all the time?? Thanks for spreading the information.
