So....this is what happens when I cook.Bonita Springs Fire & Rescue

Half of Bonita Springs Fire & Rescue comes to dinner and the whole neighborhood knows about it.

What can say? I blame it on the electric stove. Darn things are just too hard to regulate.

You need to know that I *can* cook. I just don't *like* to. So therefore...I don't cook that often.

In a rare moment of guilt, I decided to take over the duty from my DH and offered to make eggplant parmesan. I sliced the eggplant and covered it with flour and then dipped it in the beaten egg and then the bread crumbs.

So far so good....

I wanted to brown it in relatively hot oil and then transfer it to the oven.

Well, the gosh darn stupid electric burners just have a mind of their own and the oil got too hot and the hard wired right to Brinks / fire dept alarm went off. And kept going off ...on and on and on.

This alarm is more piercing than all the smoke detectors I have ever heard.

It was absolute chaos. My husband trying to talk to Brinks through all the noise. The Bonita Springs Fire & Rescue called three times to check on us and let us know that the fireman were on their way. (They did a nice job.) I told them that there was no fire and we were fine. Just our ears were splitting. They said that they *have* to come out.

And did they ever. I guess this was the most exciting thing going on in Bonita Springs tonight.

My whole street in Village Walk of Bonita Springs was nothing but fire and rescue trucks. There must have been 10 to 15 fireman milling around. 5 or 6 in my (not that big) house in full fire gear trying desperately to get this alarm to off!

How many grown trained men does it take to turn off an alarm? I don't know either.

One of the more resourceful fireman started pulling wires out of the main panel and got lucky. LOL

Well, to try and make a too long story a little bit shorter ... it's finally off and fixed and back to working properly. Sheesh.

Thanks to Bonita Springs Fire & Rescue. You guys were polite and patient and understanding.

Enjoy and have a good laugh. Oh BTW ... the eggplant parm was delicious!

My husband is a fireman and they are always looking for a great meal. looks like you may owe them one now. This has happened to me it can REALLY be embarrassing-

I don't like to cook either, but I can say that I have never done that before.  I would probably die of embarrassment if I did.  Since I live right next door to a sheriff he would probably be the one to respond though.

This is the reason that take out was invented!

Sheila-

I'm with Dinah on this one...my husband is a Fire Fighter also.  Heaven forbid if something were to happen at our house (he would NEVER hear the end of it!)

Glad everything turned out okay!

Mott ~ I did feel kind of "special" in an embarassing kind of way. And no - we don't know anybody in the dept. We do now!

Dinah ... God bless your husband. Yes ... it was emarassing. Especially when the neighbors came out.

Chastity, actually, the parm came out really good! I'll probably make it again...just more carefully!

Lisa ~ they were *really* nice. You can see in the pictures they are laughing and smiling. (probably laughing at me) ;-)

Elizabeth ... yeah ... I can imagine my face too! lol I did feel good knowing that if that many fireman came out for nothing ... what would they do in a real emergency!

Cynthia ...lol...I thought about pictures of the food - after we ate it!

Sheila R. ... they were wonderful. And it's amazing how they work with all that heavy gear on!

Sheila M ~ God bless your husband too! These men are truly angels. I feel better about a silly situation, knowing that they are there for real!

Glad everyone is okay! Is that all there is to the recipe? I have never had eggplant Parmesan but I would like to try it. Does eggplant have much of a taste? I guess I really thought that eggplant was sort of like mushrooms (not much taste but take on what they are cooked with).  Oh, and thanks for the email!!

Sharon - What happened, you need to be more careful, I glad everything is OK! Great pics, are you sure you didn't bring the fire trucks to the house so you could get these great pics for the post?

Just kidding!

Bob & Carolin ...we are fine. There was nothing wrong except the stupid alarm! Dinner was yummy.

Teresa ~ You are welcome. Hope it helped. Yes ... that's it for the breading. Then you can do you spices or salt and pepper, then after it's cooked you put on sauce and cheese! It's very good. ;-)

Robert ....I'm not quite *that* desperate to take pictures. It was so embarassing. LOL

Is it better to say I'm laughing with you? On a different note: I have a few single friends who may want to try to duplicate your experiment... it appears to be a great way to meet people. This looks like just another night in my household.

Thanks Sharon I am going to make it sometime. Here lately we have been doing the eating out thing because I really get tired of fixing the same things. I will have to say though when I was growing up my mom was really great about cooking a variety of things especially meat wise but using eggplant, artichoke, and asparagus was not really on the list. But these vegetables I would like to try. Have a Great weekend!!
