Coconut Creek Florida public hearing is Sept. 11, 2008 @ 7 PM....

ducksmallard in flight Where are these fowl to live?

There will be a public hearing on rezoning the green space area located at the intersection of Lyons Road and Atlantic Boulevard tomorrow night September 11, 2008 at 7:00 PM.

It will be at the Coconut Creek Government Center located at 4800 W. Copans Road.

The residents in Coconut Creek love the 15 acres of wetland that currently exists on this corner. Lowe's and Kohls have petitioned the city to rezone this area and change the zoning to commercial thus eliminating a major piece of forest that helps keep our air clean. With more construction in the area (don't even get me started on the noise, length of time, dirt, air pollution (my car is always covered with a white dust in the morning even if I wash it the night before - black car, show's dirt immediately) as it is now.  There is already a new Kohl's being built in Coral Springs and there are plenty of Lowe's in the area as well.

There is a community center close by and also schools.  The volumes of traffic that this will  probably generate is a safety hazzard to this particular location.  The traffic is already heavy on Lyons Road and Atlantic.  How can the "power's that be" in Coconut Creek think the current two laned Lyon's Road will be able to handle the traffic?  It's bad enough that right now the traffic is often one lane under the Florida Turnpike crossover as the construction (work on the turnpike) has been on and off there for atleast 2 years.

The exact location of this GREEN SPACE is the area is on Atlantic Boulevard in the area from Lyons Road and Banks Road.

The Lowes up here has been calling anyone and anyone it has contact info for to get business... they too are hurting up here... guess the company isn't doing to bad though since they want to wreck this habitat to build another one. Maybe they haven't learned from their experiences up here you don't need a Lowes every 5-10 miles lol. I really hope this doesn't go through and your area gets to keep its wild life space, not only does it help having all the trees and what not, but it also gives all those beautiful animals a place to live since we have already taken so much land from them... gee I wonder why species are going extinct... idiots. Good way to get the word out Karen I hope many will see this and attend the meeting and it will get knocked down :-D

Chris,

There are enough Lowe's around here to take care of the contractor's building here. With over 38,000 plus properties for sale in Broward County alone, no one should be approved to build more until we take care of the seller's out there. If and when we catch up, then it would be fine to build more inventory if needed, however, right now, I think it should stop. After all, the ones that are already built cannot sell their inventory and some are in foreclosure...why allow more to follow in their footsteps?

This is a fantastic area, don't get me wrong, but we need to address the current market and issues affecting the people in distress now before we add more inventory to a very depressed market.

Just my opinion.

Bob & Carolin,

Thanks, that is what I miss the most about where I lived in Gettysburg, PA...the land the ponds, the beautiful fall days...lot's of fresh air, lot's of greenery...but I hated the cold weather.

Karen- I totally agree. Granted yes they do need locations to supply goods for home maintenance and renovation, but I am sure they have more than enough stores to do that already. I hope the meeting went well and this proposal was shot down! :-D

Chris,

Me too, couldn't make the meeting, however, if a Kohl's opens up a mile from my house, I might as well get a job there...I love that store!

I don't want that store that close to me.  They have opened one up about 6 miles from my house so, it doesn't make sense.

Actually there are enough Lowes here as well.

So basically they want to open the Kohls between 5 and 7 miles away from another Khols.... talk about competing with yourself huh? lol That's like having 2 Shell gas stations across the street from eachother (yup we had that for about 6 months before they figured out it was a dumb idea lol).

Just have them take your check for your purchases huh? lol :-D
