Every year Travel and Leisure Magazine does a poll to find out what cities around the country are the best for different things.Charleston, South CarolinaCharleston, South Carolina

And once again Charleston, South Carolina has made the list!

Charleston scored well in several areas, but we are the #1 friendliest city in America!

Charleston received the second place honor for several other key characteristics.  Those were its noteworthy neighborhoods, vintage stores, flea markets, and peace and quiet.  Personally, I think that second place is not too shabby for all of those honors.

Not surprising to me, Charleston was found to have one of the worst night-life scenes, according to travelers.  And since two major colleges lie in our Downtown Charleston area, the College of Charleston and The Citadel, it seems reasonable that vacationers did not want to hang out in the same clubs that the college students patroned.

So we do have a few things we could look to improve, but I'm proud of the honors we have already been recognized for!

Being from the "friendliest city" is sure an honor!  I've always found most parts of the south are very friendly!  Thanks for your support on my blog.

I can believe this.  I always think of Charleston as the place to recharge my batteries.  Luckily we are close enough for a day trip!

Just another great reason why we live here!  I do agree about the nightlife downtown...unless you know where to go, you will be outnumbered by college students.

What an honor for Charleston!  Congratulations Jim & Maria.  I have to agree that the nightlife in a college town is not for everyone :)

Tracy: Exactly!  I haven't been involved in the downtown nightlife for several years, so I'm sure I'd wander into one of the college hangouts.
