Oktoberfest (that's not a typo or ignorance, that's how "they" spell it) is going on in Helen, Georgia.  It's in the North GA mountains, just an hour and a half north of Atlanta.  Helen is a little Alpine Village and they do a German Oktoberfest every year.  This year it's from September 11 through November 2. 

It started out small in the 70's but has grown to be one of the largest parties in the Southeast. It's a fun time, just be prepared for the crowds.  There is German music, the polka, the chicken dance, (Who came up with that one anyway?) and of course Beer.

If you want to stay in Helen during the festival, try to book your hotel as soon as possible.  They do fill up quickly.  Take time to enjoy the beautiful scenery while you're there.  In a few weeks the leaves will be changing and I'm sure it will be stunning.
