Have you ever taken a look at your most popular posts?  How would you gage them..comments?  Featured?  Business gained?  Your phone ringing...Some would say its all the above.  I agree sorta..but I think its more.

While the Activerain Real Estate Network is about real estate...people enjoy reading a wide variety of things...and maybe not necessarily....topics of real estate.  For those that swear only real estate should be written here...readers feel differently and you may want to think again.

It really surprised me...and it may surprise you.

Recently I learned that less than one percent of people on the net..will leave a comment ...many are reading..

BUT may not respond to you right then and there..

Example:  If you look at my map...on my side bar...I have had 13,000+ visits since April 2008.  I did not start tracking things a little closer until this year. When I look at the comments received....total comments on the rain by others...8535.

Example:  I went into statistics on my blog...I found that my profile was viewed.... 31814 times. My most popular posts will definitely surprise you!  Out of the 3 only the second was featured on the main dashboard but I have posted the link of the first one...over and over again....

When I am looking for an agent...I read what they write...do I connect with them?  Will they be a good fit for the customer?  I base demeanor...on what they write..the tone they take..not only in their blog posts but also in their comment thread....and I can tell you..its not always about real estate and sometimes not very pretty...but its important..especially if I am going to refer them business.

Really simply...truly...blogging is about people...building relationships...and writing very interesting content..relevant content that is important to your readers.

Not the network...not what your peers may think..really..its about your readers and growing your readership.

When I read some of my favorites..they have a sense of humor...

They are real people...and are not a walking billboard. I form an opinion by what they write....and I can tell you most readers will do the same thing.

As I reviewed all of my stats I found that most of my most popular posts were not featured...had fewer comments..and most of them...NOT Real Estate related.  What about you?  Have you checked out your most popular posts..and were they real estate related?

Real estate is a people to people business..

Midori, I went to take a look at my stats and hands down it is the artwork and my kids that get the killer views (LOL). I have a few that did nicely that were real estate related, but only the colorful portrayals of my trials, angst and tribulations. You have hit the nail on the noggin. People are looking to connect with other people. Period. The business will follow... the people aspect appear to come first. How cool is that? Great post! I actually got here through your twitter link! THANK YOU! :-)

Carolyn-I love your photos and I love reading about your antics with the kids...its makes for a great read and so many can relate to it...I think that is my point...whether we have a real estate license or not we are all people..with similiar goals but different interests.

Yes, some of my real estate posts are very popular...but it seems on a personal level..people seem to prefer the human side. thanks always for your support and I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts...and just like many others...I don't always comment but you can bet I am reading!

It's interesting how people connect with agents. I get lots of views and a few e-mails, but the leads I like best are the ones that pick up the phone and call me.

This is a people business. People want to feel good about those they deal with - and real estate is no different.

Grrrrreat Article the honesty one diffently should have been a feature. Everyones perception is different and I along with you when it comes to business I am straight forward and it is what it is. But I have found that people hate that even to the point of saying I am cold hearted or made on stone. Go figure. Oh well thanks for the articles.

Very interesting post Midori.  I love statistical analysis.  I noted that you indicated that you include a lot of links back to older posts.  I don't think that most of us realise how important it is to do this on a regular basis.  Like you said...if people connect with what is written, you want to make it easy for them to read more.

Midori This is excellent and you are right people are reading eventhough they are not commenting. Do you use MYbloglog? This is a grea tool to see which posts non-members are viewing.

Statistics? What Statistics? ;-))

Really, I find that there are days I just want to read something light and then other days I will read every word that is written by those that I have subscribed to.  Then there are days that I will only read my really favorite bloggers and that is it.

I agree. Real estate is all about people and it helps to have a touch of humor or something inspiring or a good (polite) controversy to sink your teeth into. if I'm reading late at night, I don't want anything that's too involved or requires close scrutiny to follow it. :)

I agree as well. I agree because I would read a person's blog and determine whether or not I like or feea connection first before commenting or contacting that person. I think most members here do the same thing, we read  a lot of posts but only comment on the ones that speak to us! Sounds corny and juvenile, but that is just me! Therefore, I love this post! Have a great weekend.

Midori, I remember when I broke a 100 views of my profile, (Remember I have only been doing this for less than 3 months) and was very pleased that people would be interested. Now I am closing in on 12 times that number. It is really all about people, isn't it?

Great post Midori.  It is always when the humanity shows through that you get to know the blogger and want to read and comment.

All the best!

hi Mmmmmidori, sorry I haven't been around in awhile, life is beyond crazy which says a lot coming from me.

Re "Really simply...truly...blogging is about people...building relationships...and writing very interesting content..relevant content that is important to your readers"...

I find the biggest problem a lot of people have is not knowing who they're writing for or blogging about too many different topics. Trying to be all things to all people doesn't work. Have a great weekend!

Very interesting and very surprising.  Just goes to show that we don't always know what we think we know.  I would never have thought to check the stats!

I haven't figured out the statistics  yet and probably don't have much of a following since I just started trying to blog...guess I will need to find the tools to keep track of things so I know what is happening on my blog...thanks for an interesting post.

Such great points Midori.  Occassionally I will speak to a real estate agent whose not sure that he/she should include personal anecdotes or stories on their blog.  They feel that people don't want to know that they have a life outside of real estate.

That's just not the case.  People make connections based on so much more than just work habits, studies and skills.

And in this post you provide the proof in the pudding.

Your first question hit me in the face. I haven't payed too much attention to which of my posts get the most comments. Obviously it's the ones that are featured. But I have other posts that unexpectedly get a ton of comments. I think some of it has to do with which groups I post to... usually the technology groups.

Hi Midori - I think anyone who is set out to blog trying to network.  I agree, it's a people business & people who need people (:)) blog, it doesn't always have to be about real estate.  I have read that here & there all along that we need to stay on topic and I disagree with this.  You can't always be cut & dry & if it's always about RE you will bore the consumer.  Besides, when you have  client in the car your topic isn't always RE - you get to know them.  Blogging is a way of letting them get to know you.

Midori - how do you know when the comments are from 'others' outside of A/r?  How do you track the numbers?

To me its not the comments...that is important...its the views...and the visits...often times all of these lead up to plenty of emails...customer inquiries...phone calls and then appointments.  How boring would the network be if all we wrote was strictly real estate posts.  Many visit...without a comment...just viewing
