Austin and Round Rock will miss the wrath of Hurricane Ike

Earlier this week the weather forecast predicted Hurricane Ike would hit close to Corpus Christi, which is futher south than Houston.  That would send the eye of the hurricane right through the heart of Texas and that includes Travis and Williamson Counties.  We are in record hot weather this summer and a drought, so the rain is badly needed.

The news media recommended we prepare for tropical storm conditions.  Families started preparing for the worse.  They were filling up their gas tanks and getting supplies like batteries and candles.  They were shopping for bottle water and supplies in case the electricity goes out. Schools are closing early to let families prepare.  Now the schools are still closing early, but that is to allow the evacuees a place to stay while they are here. There are several thousand who have come to Austin and Round Rock for shelter.

How does this affect the real estate market?  Well, buyers are not looking at homes.  When there is severe weather, homes are not shown which of course increases the days on the market.

The storm has shifted to the east.  This has put our area out of danger.  We will still have storms and rain, but not destructive. We will be lucky to get one half an inch.   East Texas will be hit hard.  Galveston is expected to be several feet under water. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of Hurricane Ike.  Let's hope the property damage will be limited and there will be no human loses.
