First and foremost to my fellow Realtors in Texas and your family's I want to say that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you effected by the Hurricane. I am a Realtor in Georgia and yesterday I went into a convenience store and heard this woman stating that this was the 3rd. vehicle she had brought from home to fill up with gas. I thought to myself maybe I need to turn on the radio and see if maybe I had missed something. After listing to a local reporter on the radio he explained that the rumor mill was working in our area at full force. The rumor was that Conoco gas stations were asking customers to limit the gas by 10 gallons. Notice I said asking. This request is supposed to be due to the fact that all Conoco oil comes directly from the Gulf. The rumor then started that gas prices were going to over $5.00 per gallon as so it began. My son stood in line last night for 45 minutes to get gas. By this afternoon it is my understanding that the gas supply in Dalton, Georgia, Chattanooga, Tn. as well as Ringgold Georgia is virtually all gone. I got a call from my sister in Waycross Georgia and the rumor has just made it there. She was in a panic on her way to fill up everything they could find to fill up.
I guess what really blows my mind about this situation is the reporter specifically stated yesterday that even if the Gulf refineries were shut down and knocked off their plat forms we have enough oil in the pipelines to take care of us until the situation can be prepared. We as a country have made it through September 11th. We have survived the supposed dreaded Y2K (remember that mess) we send our husbands, daughters, wife and sons to fight a battle were not exactly sure of and we have survived 8 years of a questionable presidency. We have and are dealing with a serious mortgage crisis and have seen our pay drop drastically so someone please tell me what am I missing. As of today oil prices were below 100 per gallon and every gas station I came across this afternoon was completely out of gas.
I am totally blown away!
It was insane enough in South Carolina, too. All of my coworkers filled everything up Thursday; by Friday they wondered why.
