Ok These days many people are thinking...........Did i make the right decision whether they are at a local company or a national big name.

So i thought i would post this and see what agents are thinking. Small local or big national?

Which one do you prefer and why what makes where you are better than the other and have you been with the other big or small i want to hear from you all.

I have friends and even family in national companies but if you know anything about me i am all about the local smaller company. So let me know what you think and why, I am really hoping that this gives me some in-site on what others have experienced and the people who read this as well.

Depends on your location I would say! In a bigger area, you should be with a well known. I was with a small company and had no business and I am aggressive. Went back to Century 21 and now have Buyers every day and new listings about every day. Folks feel like that get that national exposure.

Most of my career has been with "National" companies.  I moved a few years ago and tired of driving the 45 miles round-trip to the office.  I interviewed with the different offices and chose an independent local franchise office that has a good area name/recognition.  I made my decision based upon many factors - the broker's reputation, location, office staffing, office atmosphere, quality of support systems, programs offered, lead generation systems, broker IDX, office policies, costs, reputation, etc.

I have changed offices over the years, and find people don't really care about the office name as much as they care about who and what YOU are going to do for them to help them with their real estate transaction/purchase.  People do business with people they like and trust.

This is a great question that I have strong personal views so please keep that in mind.

I worked for a national franchise for 3 years prior to my change to a local company.  Big Franchises are what they are Big.  Here's my view big franchise's are like farms they want to bring in as many animals as they can if you produce great if you don't your off to the slaughter house. Also it's funny how most of these big franchises have Schools of Real Estate and other options to make money off of the heaps of people they hire.  Keep in mind that this is not all franchises just my experience with a few.  They are more on volume of agents then quality to agents.

Our company is different from the majority.  We don't want to be the biggest we want to focus on developing our people within and only hiring full time agents.  Pretty good business idea if you ask me.

I was with a local co but with the change in the market I really needed to do something to help expand our area. I felt going with the brand C/21 was in my best interest. Things are starting to pick up.

Chris,

We are not blind. now to answer your question, I think that succesful agents will be succesful no matter where they hang their license. I believe that you need to find an agency that mirrors your goals and your needs as an agent.

Personally I like the hands off approach, I don't need babysitting or hand holding. Give me some support and then get out of my way.

I started out with C21 because of the training but soon realized the management of this franchise was not user friendly.  I was 1/2 of a team at this point and we decided to join a new local company.  This turned out to be a disaster as well.  While taking our GRI we spoke with a long time Remax agent we had met early in our careers.  She urged us to meet with her broker.  We did and felt this was the direction we wanted to go.  We knew we were moving toward the international buyers and in order to really get the business we wanted, we had to be with the largest company in the world.  We have never looked back.  We love being a part of this company and I think a lot of it is management or your broker.  The atmosphere in our office is work - not hovering around the coffee pot gossiping.  These people come to work to work and we have a very busy thriving office.  I am so glad in our area I am with the leader.

I think it depends on the area that you serve.  In small suburban areas boutique offices seem to work.  I large cities the branding of large franchises helps to draw buyers and sellers.

Find a franchise that works with a local mindset, it all depends on the owners and brokers. Franchises especially in a market like this bring some advantages.

I have never done anything but the local company.  We are small, but pack a big punch as we only bring on agents that fit with the family and only full time agents.  I like the fact that I can do a face to face with the owner/broker anytime.  Decisions are immediate.  No rules are hard and fast...going on vacation? Sure we can cut your check early so you have some spending money.  Having a problem? Yes, we can spend a little money to solve it rather than send it to the legal department.  It's nice.

I'm with a total local start up for the past 6 months.  I'm having a great year.  If anything, I think it's energized the agents working at this new office!

It all depends on where you are and the company you represent. Royal..

The Local Company I am with is The Big Company in the area. I love that! I get offers to move all the time, I couldn't imagine a scenario In which I would leave. I believe if you have great training and a good support system you can accomplish your goals anywhere.

Brian, I don't think it makes any difference. Both national and small companies have their advantages and disadvantages. I've worked for both in the past. I think it boils down to one question, "What kind of rapport will I have with the Broker?"

Good Question!

I work for a local company and I do have people confuse the concept of the two, they think a big company will get more exposure..they need to be educated....

Thank you for all the great comments. This has been very insightful even though i think very few people here sided with a national company name. I thought their would be more people that would have came forth and said oh yea national company all the way.

I feel that if you work hard and enjoy what you are doing then you will succeed what ever company you choose unless this company has a bad rap in the area of course.

And as far as nationwide coverage sorry national companies i am WORLDWIDE

check it out just go to google and see search on "Woodland Park Co Real Estate" who do you find? me me me no national company here so home seller who would you like to list and SELL your home?
