Many people believe that Zillow pioneered the concept of the web based instant homevaluation tool.

For those of you with longer memories, you know this is not true.

HomeGain had a web based instant homevaluation tool back in 1999! (see what it looked like below).

Currently our instant homevaluation tool is part of our product AgentView which features Real Estate Agents' blogs, listings and profiles exclusively in an advertising free environment.

Louis,

A long time ago I used to choose young adults to win a scholarship.  I had massive graphs and weighted their worthiness based on points I gave them in three different areas.  Grades, work history and financial need.

As I recall, or I should say as rumor had it, Homegain was only evaluating on cost of service.  It became a Hungry Agent bidding war on price alone.

The message sent as a result is all agents are the same, it's simply a matter of who will grovel the most.  I have never been one who grovels.

The public needs a valuation tool that values agents on various levels.  Separates good agents from bad ones.  I think I saw something called AgentMatch.com like eHarmony :)  Perhaps the next big deal will be who can help sellers evaluate agents on something besides price.

I think you are confusing HomeGain's homevaluation tool that provides instant estimate of homes' values with our Agent Evaluator product.

Take a look again, the post was merely pointing out that HomeGain had a homevaluation tool YEARS before Zestimate was even a word.

However, since you brought it up, our AgentEvaluator product allows consumers to compare agent's experience and their  profiles vs other agents.

In a few surveys that we have done with our consumers, experience and personalization of proposals were the top two reasons people selected the winning agent in our Agent Evaluator program, NOT commission rates.

Indeed consumers that use the Agentevaluator program value realtor services, that is why they fill out a two page form for the priviledge of seeing real estate agent proposals.
