It's Time for Baseball

It is that time of year when the men of summer are starting to take the field.  We are lucky enough to enjoy a minor league team here in Toledo that I would encourage everyone to take advantage of.  It is a great time whether you are young or old.  I have three small children that absolutely love to head down for a Mud Hens game.

Muddy  I wanted to write just a few helpful hints to attending a Hens game to make it enjoyable for everyone whether they are young or old.

1.  There is really not a bad seat in the house.  You can pretty much rest assured that you will have a great seat when you go to the game.  The seat will also be priced an affordable for everyone.

2.  You can see fireworks every Friday, Saturday and Sunday home game.  Who does not like to watch fireworks?

3.  Your children can run the bases every Sunday home game.  This is a great time for the kids when they get to run the bases down at 5/3 Field.  My only comment is you might want to run with your 4 years old to prevent them from getting to second base and realizing that you are not there.

4.  Leave your seat and take in an inning from the top of the left field wall.  I would recommend going towards the end of the game when it is not quite as busy.  The left fielder will usually toss a ball into the stands there for someone with some little ones.

5.  There is a great play ground straight away in center field that really is quite empty at various times during the game.  Utilize this area when the little ones are getting restless.

6.  Zooperstars!  These are inflatable characters that have a person inside.  My kids still talk about a game we went to two years ago when one of the players got eaten by one of these creatures and popped back out missing his uniform.  What a brave player to partake in such a great thing to entertain the fans.

7.  The chance that you are going to see future stars is great.  The Blade just published a great list of all the players currently in Detroit that have come through Toledo.  This is nice to because the Hens hold numerous autograph sessions during the season.

8.  SpongeBob/Dora/Muddy/Muddonna.  You get to see them all during the games.

9.  All the great ballpark food you can eat.  Hotdogs, pizza, nachos, burgers it is all here.  I know that my two boys will be more than occupied watching the game and shelling peanuts.

If you live anywhere around Toledo and have not been to a game, make a special effort to get Downtown and enjoy the Hens.  For those of you that have already been there, make the same effort to go down and cheer for the two time defending league champ Mudhens.
