Given birth 23 years ago over a single scotch malt in a local Pub the Uxbridge Celebration of the Arts has always been "volunteer driven and supported by sponsors and donations"

The major annual project of the group brings The Uxbridge Arts Community together for a month long Fall Festival of the Arts. This years festival is longer and more extensive than ever with the return of the popular Motley Theatre Group and the introduction of a Sculpture Symposium where for 10 days (Sept 29th to Oct 9th) you can watch three sculptors complete three sculptures that will be given to the Town.

The festival which starts Sept 17th and runs to Oct. 18th includes music, film, art, stage and books

MUSIC is featured in a Cabaret Night, a Gala Concert, Saturday Lunch Concerts and Fridays at the Foster.

FILM includes a Short Film Festival and Saturday Classic Cartoons.

Art is showcased in the Studio Tour, a Juried and Kids Art Shows, a Community Art Show and a Sculpture Symposium.

The Written Word is revered in Books and Brunch and the Books and Authors Night.

The public portion of this years line up starts off with a live play reading of " Painting Churches" reportedly a "hilarious and moving play" by Tina Howe as presented by by Anna McKay Smith and the Motley Theatre Group on the 18th at the Historic Music Hall. The play details an "episode in the life of a church family" with Kenneth Welsh as the aging eccentric father, Anna Mckay Smith as the mother and Mika Collins as the daughter.

This is followed immediatly with the -FREE- Uxbridge Studio Tour (Sept 20th and 21st 10 am to 6 pm).

With 27 local artists opening their studios and galleries this year as well as hosting 29 guest artists its no wonder its recognized as one of the best studio tours in Ontario. The tour provides an opportunity to see some great paintings, photography, ceramics, fabric art, sculpture and much more.

The studio environments encompass all that Uxbridge has to offer with some located on large country properties and others in smaller spaces in town. You will traverse our hills and vales from Sunderland and beyond in the north to Claremont in the south with Uxbridge right in the heart of them all. Pack a picnic or enjoy a feast at one of the many local restaurants, but whatever you do plan to make a day, or two, of it.

A must see is the work of the amazingly creative Viktor Tinkl who's home is surrounded by bizarre concrete aqua ducts, gargoyles, figurines and whimsical whatnot's. This stop alone could keep you and your children enthralled, entertained and amused for a good part of a day,

While you are out touring our wonderful country side you may decide you would like to join us on a more permanent basis and move to the Uxbridge area. I would be more than pleased to assist you in relocating to our fine area.
