King Tut is coming to Dallas Museum of Art

By
Industry Observer

In what promises to be an exciting exhibit, on October 3, 2008, the King Tut exhibit will open at the Dallas Museum of Art.  Since the first King Tut tour in the 1970's (and Steve Martin's humorous parody song about his life), King Tut has to many people come to symbolize the mystery and intrigue of the Egyptian Pharohs.

This exhibit promises to be an exciting and interesting one, featuring objects of the royals of the 18th Dynasty (between 3,300 and 3,500 years old) including 50 of King Tut's burial objects including his royal diadem, which is the gold crown discovered encircling the head of his mummified body that he likely wore as king.

Tutankhamun died under mysterious circumstances at age 18 or 19 in his 9th year as Pharoh... that would have made him only 9 or 10 when he ascended to the throne... truly making him "The Boy King".

Be sure not to miss this exhibit... to me it always seems like they are here for long periods of time, but it also always seems like I am rushing to get to these exhibits before they leave.  This is one I am planning to see early in it's tour here!

Steve:  This looks like an absolutely great exhibition for the Dallas Museum of Art.  I bet it is going to be wonderful.  And... if you look closely at Mr King Tut... and then look at your picture... you know there really IS quite a resemblance... (but you need just a tad more eyeliner).  Are you holding out on us ?

Also... there is a wonderful Impressionism exhibit currently on display at the Kimbell art museum in Fort Worth.  I think it is there until November 2, 2008.  Now this... would be just an awesome exhibit to see.  Impressionism is my fave.

I love that Steve Martin song!  I still have it on a vinyl album.  There, I said it.  I am old, alright?

Steve

I have to go see this!  Studied the King in college and archeology is a hobby for me.

Hi Karen Anne... I am really not sure how close the resemblence is... but I have always wanted to be King... Hmmm.  BTW, I like impressionism too.

Hi Liz... I remember the first King Tut exhibit.  I guess that dates me too!

Hi Jason... Y'know there's a real estate conection in his story since he was born in Arizona and moved to Babylonia and would have likely had a real estate agent who listed the Arizona ranch and sold him his condo made of stone-a.  Maybe the A|R folks could do a remake of the song and change the line "He gave his life for tourism" to "He gave his life for Localism!" :)

Hi Gail... I bet it will be worth the drive from Austin!  And we can meet for lunch!

Hi Trey... I have always found archeology interesting too.  Come on up to Big D... maybe you and Gail can carpool (or maybe not, that would be out of your way)!

That exhibit was here a few years ago, and I missed it. It looks like it is going to be a really interesting show. I'll have to catch it one day. GBU!

Hi Elizabeth... Why don't you come on down for a visit to Texas and you can see the exhibit while you're here.  It will be until May 2009 so you have plenty of time to plan!
