Why do we always want more? Remember when you were a kid and your brother or sister got the bigger half of the peanut butter sandwich and you blew and gasket? Remember when you got that first pay check and wanted more? Went to look for your first house and wished you could afford more? Is it in our nature to want more or do we expect it as Americans? Don't we all just have too much stuff? I show houses everyday and one comment I always hear is there is not enough closet space? More, more, more we want it! Do we really need it.

Are we just trying to keep up with the Jones? I see a lot of Realtors scaling back in these slow times. Maybe the trend is heading the other way? Smaller cars, smaller houses, is less better? Are we all just spoiled Americans?

I was taking inventory today, two boats a pair of jet skies, a camper, the BMW, A house way too big for the four of us. Rentals all over the state of Florida I got a lot of stuff and how much do we really need?

America represents 4% of the world and we use 25% of the oil? The US borrows 22 cents for every dollar we spend (www.IOUSA.COM )

Is anything made in the USA anymore? GMC told the news it cannot make a profit paying labor in US plants. Toyota and Nissan opened 4 more plants in the US last year?

Makes you wonder the direction America is heading?

You might try something that is working for me. If I buys a new shirt, an old one goes to goodwill. Go through your house and see what you really need, and sell or donate what you don't use. you can clear out the extra stuff and make a little cash and or help someone less fortunate. Good luck!!

We are so spoiled in this country and don't even know it! I notice it a lot in my kids -- they think if they lose or break a favorite toy, they can just go out and get a new one. I know that my husband and I are responsible for this behavior, although we don't do it ourselves and take care of what we have. I've recently started making my kids more responsible for their stuff, starting them with saving for what they want and caring for what they have (they are 6 and 3). I am now also on a big "Freecycling" kick. Would love to get rid of about 1/2 the stuff in my house and have room to breathe.

You read my mind.  I'm cleaning out old unused electronics this week, old CDs, old, old, old stuff.

Darin...

I went through the "stuff" stage, and now I'm becoming more and more of a minimalist! But I guess that hurts the economy. Ah well, what can you do?

Betina, I used to follow the rule of bring one item in the house, take one out and then that stopped happening.  I need to get back to that. It was much simpler.  I should find a drawer to clean out today. :)

I am in the process of going through my "stuff" and trying to redistribute to people who need or want it. ~ Evelyn

Darin - We are spoiled that's for sure.  I use the one in and one goes out rule in my house.  (And I have been trying to toss an extra bag of stuff every week ) After almost 15 years here, we have WAY too much stuff.  Our house isn't too big though, we don't care for too big - too much to take care of!!

A charity called last week - we try to donate at lease a bag or box of stuff each time they go by our neighborhood!

I'm with you on that.  I cleaned out my closet this weekend (a large closet).  I think I took out as much as I left in there.  I really wondered how it all fit in the first place???  I'm giving it all (good items, some with tags still on) to a womens shelter.  I feel good about doing this and hopefully helping someone that could use it.  I'm on a role now, if my hubby doensn't behave he may go to...  lol

We all need to learn to have less stuff
