Locks of Love

Brendan Henry, age 9 decided almost 3 years ago to grow his hair for locks of love. The mothers of two of his school pals lost their hair while battling cancer. This left a deep impression on Brendan - luckily today both of his friend's moms are healthy.

It has not always been easy and he has been called a girl more times that he can count but it was all worth it.

If you or anyone in your family would like do donate hair to Locks of Love you can visit them on the web at LocksofLove.org. The hair needs to be 10 inches in length.

From Brendan and all of the Henry's we wish you a healthy and happy year.

Maureen - what a very cool thing for Brendan to do. I'm impressed. The owner of the local EmbroidME franchise in Encinitas recently donated her hair - there was a big article in the paper about it.

Maureen ~ What a very touching video!  You must be so proud of him, and he should be proud of himself for sticking it out and helping someone else out!  I will gladly vote on his youtube video and rate it.  Does he feel strange now without all that hair?

I have never donated hair  and I don't think anyone would want it now, but my niece did. Of course she didn't have any crosses to bear, so to speak, by having long hair. I think it is a wonderful thing your son did and it is very rare for a young child to feel so charitable.  I know you are very proud of him.

Hey Jeff - I probably should have called the local paper. It is not every day the a boy donates his hair.

Kathy - It doesn't seem to phase him but I'm having a hard time getting used to it.  He really had very pretty hair it was a shame to see it go.

Vicki - Thanks for your comment, I think sometimes we don't give them enough credit.

Maureen: You should feel proud. You have raised a noble and generous human being. And your son should feel proud for putting others in need before himself. Congratulations to you both.

Marci - he is one tough little dude, just like his mama.

Chuck - my daughter has been trying for such a long time but her hair grows so slowly and we keep having to trim the ends - she may never mak it.

Karen - Maybe I could learn something from him.

Cheryl - I'll pass it along. :)

Precious story, it is our children that teach us what is really important and oh how they listen to us and what we say and imitate what we do. So, we best be guardians of their world, until they can take it over. Gosh, thanks for the inspiring post.

Maureen, how proud you must be.  What a wonderful act of kindness by such a young boy.  To ignore the teasing that you spoke of because of a greater cause is beyond what most children his age would be willing to endure.  I have a feeling this is only the beginning.  Thank you Brendan!

What a great kid.   I can't imagine the amount of teasing that he rec'd at school.

When he went back after his cut I bet the kids didn't recornize him.

Maybe then what he did would have an impression on the rest of the kids.

Wouldn't it be great it the whole class did it as a project of love

I know two people that did the same thing. It says something about people who can be so selfless!! And it says something about you for teaching your son to care so much for others. If only everyone was as kind the world would be a better place! I can see Brandon's future.........he will be a great man!! Be blessed!
