I'm not sure what meteoroligists in the Louisville Metro Area were saying last night but, it should have been, "OOPS."  With little warning, the remnants of Hurricane Ike combined with a cold front to deliver a massive blow to Louisville residents in particular and LGE in specific.  Predicted 20-30 mph gusts showed up as 60-70 mph gusts and the resulting windstorm left 280,000 people without power last night. 

While most of the damage was limited to downed trees and power lines, tragedy did strike.  A 10-year old boy was killed by a falling limb and over 25 house fires were started as a result of the fallen power lines.  My thoughts and prayers are with those of you who lost so much during this storm.

As of right now, LGE is reporting that power to many areas may not restored for at least a week.  Schools in Jefferson County (Public and Catholic) , Bullitt County, Oldham County, and most other surrounding areas are closed today and future plans are day-by-day.  Check the Courier-Journal or local TV/Radio stations for more information on business and school closings.     

On a more positive note, damage at Valhalla was limited and the Ryder Cup will continue as planned.  The infusion of money to the local economy could not come a better time.
