"Art On The Bench" Local Artists Bring Color to Hickory NC-Part 2

The City Of Hickory's Public Art Commission brought color to Hickory in a unique way this year. Local artists were chosen to paint 21 metal benches to be placed around town. See my first installment of "Art On The Bench" Local Artists Bring Color To Hickory NC - Part 1 for photos of the first 4 benches on Union Square in downtown Hickory.

Thanks to my sweet hubby, I was able to find and photograph 6 more "art benches" on Saturday around Hickory. He drove while I jumped out to do photos - except for the 2 photos he took for me on busy Hwy 127. I still have 11 more benches to find and share. This has been like a scavenger hunt, great fun!

Two of the art benches are located in the "SALT Block" of Hickory.

Ocean Fantasy by Heidi Rice is a tribute to children's creativity - located in front of the Millholland Planetarium.

<<Beth Palermo created this bench featuring The Hickory Choral Society with colorful swirling musical notes.

Art Bench DaBenchi

"Da Benchi" by Becky Wisniewski - Morganton Day School created this contemporary composition of the "Mona Lisa" - located in front of the Hickory Women's Resource Center.

The next 3 benches are located on busy Hwy 127 in Hickory through the Viewmont community.

A tribute to the "American Military Aviators" by Michael Kincaid in front of Viewmont Baptist Church.

Hickory Art Bench Bench Marx

"Bench Marx" by the students of Morganton Day School. This is a tribute to the Marx brothers in black and white and the scroll on

the back lists the Marx brothers movies.

Hickory Art Bench Landscape

This beautiful landscape with a lake is by Charles Garrett, Jr.

All the metal benches were provided by Bakers Waste Equipment in Morganton NC.

That is sooooooooooooooooooooooo KEWL!! I love it! Being an artist, I'm often guilty of painting on anything that doesn't run from me. I LOVE the bench idea. I think I'm gonna just have to steal that idea and do one. I've got to come up with a theme. Hmmmmm...I'll let you know. GBU!

I think they should auction off the benches afterwards or auction the chance to paint a bench- what advertizing! I love getting to see community ideas in action. thanks cheryl

Hey Cheryl W, The auction is a great idea but I love seeing them around town - maybe they should do both. Today I was driving and yelled 'OH, there's another bench" while I was talking to hubby on my cell, had to turn around to get the pic.. They emailed me the app for Art on the Bench Phase 2 today, I hope to submit a proposal for a bench.. God bless,

Cheryl, I LOVE this! We don't get to Hickory as much as we have in the past because we are getting our favorite stores around here, but sometime when I get there I would like to look at these. I Love unique things and ideas and these sure fill-the-bill. Can't wait to see the other 11. Thanks for sharing!!

Hey Cheryl, you know I will take you up on it. I know you are a busy gal so check your calendar and let me know a timeframe that you can block off a few hours. Yep, having lunch with me takes a few hours, because I love to talk! You know it is really funny how we change; when I was younger I was a motor mouth, then we moved to North Carolina and I became pretty quiet and now I'm a motor mouth again. Can't wait!

Aloha cheryl...thanks so much for thinking of me....ive missed being active in the Rain...a lot of small issues have come up for me and ive been doing a lot of alone time and praying time and healing time......it seems in my life of 37 years...i have to "prove" things to people and i really really cant stant that.....i really pride myself on being an honest and trustworthy person, but there are people out there that honestly think you are not.....and it baffles me......i put my best foot forward with all the integrity and honestly and biblical prinicpals as i can.....and still there are people out there that find fault in that.....im soooo sensitve that it really causes emotional problems for me :(

Hey Cheryl with the gas shortage the way it is I will have to wait. I think I counted that Denver has 8 or 9 gas stations and all were out today. At present I have a half tank. Hopefully, we can get together after all this...
