Update on HB 868
Many of you are aware of HB868 a house bill attempting to create an additional recording fee on every deed, mortgage and plat recorded in the State of New Hampshire. The fees received to directly benefit LCHIP (Land and Community Heritage Investment Program)
In part due to the strong opposition of the NH Realtors ,the sponsor of HB 868 has now introduced an alternative funding mechanism....an increase in the RE Transfer Tax, instead of the deeds recording fees. If passed into law the NH RETT would be $15.60 per thousand of the sales price. I think you are all aware of what this will do to affordability.
Unfortunately this amendment to the budget has pased in the Ways and Means Committee. The next best chance for defeat is in the Senate. If defeated in the Senate is is expected that the proposal will be revived in its original form!
The members of the State Public Policy Group have been lobbying, emailing and signing petitions about this for some time now....we need YOUR help.
Chric Nicolopoulos of the NH Association of Realtors (our lobbyist) has asked me to pass on his email adress to all who are interested in voicing objection.
If you email Chris he can give you talking points and who to either call or email.
Please respond...no matter how it is presented this is a regressive tax placed on the backs of those who buy and sell Real Estate!
