Trip to Belize in April 2008

I went to Belize in April 2008.I flew via Houston on Continental. The flight was uneventful ,but the pilot had to try the landing 3 times.Later when I left the plane, I heard the co-pilot saying  that it was his first landing there.

From Belize City I flew with a typical bush plane, a Cessna, one engine turbo-prop plane to Placencia. These planes fly pretty low and that gave me a chance for a good view of the coastal areas that we flew parallel to .These planes are very reliable and when needed can land nearly everywhere.

Along the coast there were a few developments but it is still mainly rural and without the typical build out of most other coasts in the Caribean. Some areas were being prepared to be develloped .You could see the start of roads and the excavating for homes and /or marina

On the plane I met a group  retired Texas oil men that go twice a year for a few weeks to Placencia to go fishing. They love the place. The fishing is very good!

All airports are small and a far cry from the hustle and bustle and security activities  of the airports in the USA. You know you are in a different world and on vacation.

More next time.
