Aloha Kimo-Any active windmills on Oahu? How about home use? We have the one windfarm on Maui with a second planned on Haleakala. I am also seeing more folks looking at home wind power solutions.

Aloha Pete, We have no wind farms here on Oahu, to my knowledge but David Murdoch is planning to create a large 'Farm'on Lana'i. with the intent of selling energy to Hawaiian Electric. We have tidal electric plants in the works here. Mahalo for commenting.

Aloha Kimo,

Good to hear on the Oahu tidal plants. We have one that should be going on line in the next year over by Peahi. I heard about Murdock's plan for Lanai and Oahu.

Kimo,

You and I know that there is a real need to get MECO and HECO on board with this program. They give it lip service, but they really don't support wind, hydro, solar or other alternative energy unless they are the provider. It is time to get the state legislature involved with supportive legislation that allows alternative producers the chance to make a profit on their investment.

Why spend the money only to be self-sufficient?  If you produce an excess of energy , why not be able to sell it back in to the grid for a profit?

When I grow too much corn. taro or tilapia , I can sell them at a profit. Why not electricity.

We need a fundamental change in our outlook on energy production and consumption. We need the grid, line maintenance, and firm power the the utilities produce, but we to loosen up the regulation to stimulate more small producers to have a distributed base.

It's time ALL of the USA works towards the common goal of removing our dependancy on fossil fuels.

Glad to see you guys are taking a proactive role in getting it done.

I've been to your neck of the woods and it is absolutely the most spectacular place in the USA.

Aloha Tracy, HECO likes making money and they enjoy the monopoly they have here in Hawaii. Circumvent HECO through private business focused on alternative renewable resources and HECO will eventually have to buy electricity from these entities or face losing their monopoly to competing private  energy companies. Granted this will only work if our local government isn't bought out by HECO but it's a start. Great points thanks for commenting.

Aloha Craig, mahalo! We here in Hawaii have a long way to go towards energy independence, but any step forward is great in my book.
