Texas Active Rain members are a very friendly group of bloggers, and must really like each other and getting together...This was our second gathering in just five months!

jason

In May Ricki Eichler hosted our gathering in Bandera TX, which was my first chance to Active rain bloggersmeet the REAL people behind my computer screen.  Recently Jason Crouch hosted our second gathering this year in Austin TX, at the County Line restaurant.  Both meeting places just happened to be in the gorgeous Hill Country part of TX, one of the gems of our great state.  Jason not only organized the whole affair in Austin, he also paid for everything.   It was a combination networking of Jason's Active Rain friends, but also a celebration of his 38th birthday, which was the next day.  Jason also invited some of his friends from Church, and his community.  His beautiful wife, mom and kids were also there.

The County Line restaurant is right on part of Lake Austin, it was an idyllic setting, with large outdoor decks and a big grassy area going right up to the water.   The Country Line is famous for its BBQ, and all of their bragging rights are dead on...it was delicious!  Ribs, chicken, cowl slaw, potato salad, homemade bread, yummy soul food. Judi Morgan coordinated having two cakes brought for Jason, one a TX theme, and one a Power Ranger theme (we all know Jason is a big kid at heart), he did restrain himself from jumping up in the air with his new toys.  The one Chocolate, one Vanilla cakes were served up with homemade vanilla ice cream made by the Country Line.  I happened to catch a few belts being let out...discretely :-).

AR

Active Rain Ambassador Tom Plant  flew in again from CA, I guess he likes us; he was at our Bandera gathering also.  This time Tom was accompanied by his Sweet heart Laura.  She is a delightful lady and we all enjoyed getting to meet her.  Their wedding is planned for next year, so this time TX will have to go to CA.  Lots of people came who I had not met before, which was another treat, as well as many from our first get together. Texans are truly one of the friendliest states, everyone just makes you feel like an old friend, and many of us are now.

Thank you Jason for a truly wonderful day, Bill and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  So did Mr. Rhett Butler, and I convinced Debra A. Brooks his kisses were sweeter (had a tooth pulled and teeth cleaned just for Deb), otherwise she had threatened "no loving".  I would like to thank all my active rain friends for their support, and friendship, you guys mean the world to me.  Liz

PS, slide show still working on...but it will be great if I can ever figure out how to work thesilly thing...anybody know about flash slide show maker???  Call me :-)...till then here are a couple more pictures of the great time we had...enjoy, L

Liz - I heard good things about the event.  I was unable to make it afterall, but spoke with Jason afterwards to see how things went (he actually called me).  It was our first official conversation.  Very nice guy.  I look forward to going down there and meeting him in person in the near future.  Sorry I missed you.

What a nice looking group! I've said it before...I'm missing out on a lot of fun, not living closer to your rainy community. It's so great that you all are creating the special moments and strengthening the wonderful bonds---and enjoying all that delicious fare! (Although COWl slaw must be unique to Texans...sounds udderly delicious!)

Hi Liz,  Great blog and the pictures are wonderful!  So many good ones.  Deb looks so cute on that rock bench and Alan all alone at the table is a good one.  The one with you and Russell is great!  And the top one of Jason is the best photo I've ever seen of Jason.  He should use this one for his blog.  All of them are good.  I like the one of you and me and Jason too.  Thanks and so glad to have you back on here.  Waiting to hear from you today!  Fingers crossed and praying too!

You know Liz, it's a great thing when you finally meet someone off-line after all the time you've taken in getting to know them on-line. It takes those little realtionships to a whole new level ya know?

I've been a part of quite a few meetups here in my hometown (Los Angeles) and they've been a blast. I've really become great friends with some of the people I've met as I'm sure you all have.

Liz, It's about time we got to hear from you. I have missed you so much! Lord, I hope you fared well with IKE and that you're safe and sound. I love the photos. I would like to see the one I took of you on the bench too! I know it turned out great!

If you get around to it call me. I am at Wichita Falls at least for the moment. There is still no electricity in Huntsville and I am enjoying being with family.

Hugs and kisses to you and Rhett,

Deb

Liz, enjoyed the post, missed the party - and you look mahvelous, dahling!

Real Estate Shows are great, only about 130 a year for all that you can do.  The easiest for me is www.slideshow.com - fast, different looks, just upload the pics and you can change the order after, so easy.  Then you cut and paste the html in your post.  Takes about 10 minutes and Free.

WelcomeMat has a good, easy one, too.

LIZ, I missed not getting to go this time but maybe next time.  I had an out of town buyer in that weekend.  Glad to hear you have electricity.  The only reason I do is because I am in New York City visiting my daughter.

Russell...

Yea it is a good one of us, looks like we came as a date, even dressed alike :-).  Still haven't given up on the slide show, but needed to get some on.  Doing and feeling much better, and looking forward to hearing more from my friends.  Congratulations on your feature blog, it was very good, L

Gena...

It really is a great group, very relaxed around each other.  Good to see you blogging more again too, you always have sure great stuff and pictures to share.  Take care my friend, L  PS since Tom Plant flies down for our Texas get togethers, the next time we have one I think you should come and spend a couple of days with me...OK?

Laurie...

Texans are a friendly bunch, sometimes we embellish the truth a bit :-), but my Daddy always said, "If something is worth telling, it's worth exacturating".  A true Texan through and through.  Come on down and join us next time, Tom Plant has flown in twice from CA, we would love to have you, L

Missy

We've been dealing with hurricanes, it is a mess.  There is still 700,000 people without power!  At one point there were over TWO MILLION people w/0 power, sewer, food, etc.  It has really been bad and I've lived here my whole life!  I have not been blogging as much even before, just need to get back on schedule.  Hope all is well for you, L

Kim...

I agree and this is our 2nd Texas gathering in just a few months.  We have such a great, friendly group, very laid back, easy going and lots of fun too.  Tom Plant has come down from CA for both, so you need to "Come on down" for our next one!  L

Gail...

It was nice seeing you again, next time we need to spend more time together.  I'm still trying this damn slide show thing, I can see it, just can not figure out how to get the HTML code.  Will post it soon I hope  L

Jason...

Doing good, did not get any damage from hurricane, was very lucky.  Talk to you soon, L

Thanks, I love taking pictures.  Scuba diving without my underwater camera is like going on the dive without my tank on :-).  I need to do a post with some of those, too bad most of those years I was using film.  L

Don...

You are an angel, if it had not been for you and Ricki, poor Rhett would not have been in as good a shape.  Still coming to see you guys.  L

Steve...

Sorry you had to miss it, we really do have a great group here in TX!  Fun, relaxed, easy going, like to have fun....I've made some very good friends.  Hope to meet you at our next one, L

Thank God I've got you as my spell check, but we need to do it before I post :-).  Tom Plant flew in again from CA with his sweetheart Laura, so you can just come on down for the next one too.  I would love to meet you in person.  Stay healthy & happy, L

Ricki...

You are always so sweet, and one of my best friends too.  I'm very thankful to AR for helping me find you!  I think I forgot to call you...oops, all is well and I'm at -0-, so the medicine is working, and treatment should only be 9 months vs 1 year....YEA!  I'll try to call you tomorrow.  Hugs, L
