My goal today is to bring you a set of links to stories in the Washington Post that directly pertain to life in Northern Virginia. I'll try to do this on a regular basis to keep you informed! You may see future blogs that more specifically address issues raised in these stories. Feel free to leave a comment on the types of issues that you feel are most important, and I will make sure to watch for them and bring the information to you!
Here's a sampling of recent news, courtesy of the Washington Post:
Loudoun's Recruitment of New Teachers : "Star in Your Own Life" is the slogan Loudoun County Public Schools is using to attract new teachers to the area. They are opening four new schools this August and have around 800 positions to fill.
Gov. Kaine Wants to Ban Smoking in Virginia Restaurants : Gov. Kaine has proposed outlawing smoking in all Virginia bars and restaurants. Looks like he has enough support in the state Senate, but it is not clear yet whether it will make it through the House. Stay tuned.
Nicholas Cage Filming at the Masonic Memorial : Disney has rented and closed the Masonic Memorial in Alexandria for a week while they film "National Treasure: Book of Secrets", the sequel to the 2004 hit. Okay, not really high up on the priority list for local news, but it's Nicholas Cage!!
Volunteers Needed! : A number of organizations are looking for volunteer help on a daily, weekly, or regular basis. Check these out and see if you can help!
Local Happenings : Washington Post's compilation of local happenings, including arts and crafts, children's activities, Easter celebrations, and other community events.
