We are hearing a lot about Radon here in Ontario, has anyone had this test done in there home? Do you think it is a good idea to have it done and or do you think we have any concerns here in Ontario. We are also seeing a lot of different testing / training, and what is the cost. Should bring in a few debates.

Hi Charles, I heared Radon Gas is everywhere. In all my home sales, I had one Buyer that wanted to test for Radon. I told him my undersatnding is that if you open your windows and get fresh air everyday then it is not an issue. He still wanted to test for it I did not discourage him any further. The inspector sealed the house up for two days to prevent any fresh air to come in....After he wrote a nice report I asked him about what I heared and he hemmed and hawed and admitted yes with fresh air Radon is not an issue. In other words at least open the windows for about 20 min. per day. So hope this helps.

Hi Chuck,

Radon is a global problem. It can be found in all areas and in any type home, old, new, basement, crawlspace, slab on grade, etc. Primary source of radon is from the soil. The only way to know is to test.

As you know, Canada recently adjusted their action level to be more in line with the rest of the world. And for good reason. The health effects are well documented and increased risk has been seen at low cumulative exposures.

So YES! It is always best to test for radon. And not just during home sales. Homeowners should be encouraged to test also. This is a cancer causing element that can be easily fixed.

Regards...
