At least for now I have the spot as sponsor for the city of Columbus on Localism.com I have mixed feelings about that. I am disappointed that with only two city of Columbus neighborhoods, Clintonville and Polaris, I got the City of Columbus for free. For at least a month the sponsorship of the city of Columbus is mine for sponsoring the most city of Columbus communities. Sad.

Sad.... also since I wrote this all but unless I repost it to my DiscoverColumbusOH.com it will be gone once someone with money and big ambitions notices they can sponsor three Columbus neighborhoods and get the City of Columbus sponsorship on Localism.com for free. Then what I wrote will be gone, gone, all gone... Nope it is here.

Localism is free.

Sponsorship costs money, not much,  but the person who sponsors the most neighborhoods in a city gets the city for free.  I sponsored neighborhoods to support AR and to see what it does just two communities are in the city of Columbus.   This was a lot of writing for the small spot for a sponsor on Localism for a city the size of Columbus, but it is hard to distill a city this size.  Sponsorship space is the same for a city as it is for a neighborhood.

I'm not complaining it's free.  I just wanted to make use of all the writing.

Maureen:  I, like many other AR members felt a bit betrayed by the new sponsoring system and I still feel that way.  I have sponsored nothing, but continue to be an active localism poster which keeps me a good neighbor for the time being - I hope that doesn't change...  I have yet to hear anyone say though the sponsorship has brought them business/revenue/anything but another bill to pay.  I don't mean to sound cynical, but I refuse to pay money with no expectation of return.

Maureen--It will be Localism's loss if you lose the spot. Your profile of Columbus is wonderful.

I don't mind paying for 4 neighborhoods.. $36? I think a month.  $432 for a year if I stick with it and I don't have a long term commitment... it was not my favorite way for them to monetize the site but no one asked my opinion.... obviously not a big hit with Ohioans on a whole... or maybe I should say Central Ohioans.  Maybe they sold lots of sponsorships in Cinci and Cleveland or the smaller cities or small towns and rural areas.

I felt betrayed when they said there'd be editing. Sold the sponsorships and then said, "changed our minds... no editing, behave yourselves..."

Teri... all that shows on the Localism page is the first paragraph and the

"Employment in Columbus:"

but that's OK... it's a free sponsorship. I'm not complaining!

hope people see the + in the top corner, so they see there is more.  Not sure if I would have if Cheryl Johnson did not blog about it and tell how to do it easy without having to write it all in html.

See- I was looking at your post and wondering how you got all that info on localism, it took me all the way to the last comment to find out you didn't!  I just got through writing a couple of my descriptions and the space is just too small - it should at least be allowed to continue somewhere in case a consumer stumbles on it and actually wants to read more.  I'm voting for a "Read More" link - not that anyone cares about my vote either :)

Thanks for letting me know that, I'm off to read Cheryl's post.  I guess I'm just not intuitive enough to figure out the + sign meant "read more"!

I tried to move this conversation over to ActiveRain rather than on my masterpiece about Columbus Ohio neigborhoods especially since the discussion is about Localism NOT Columbus Ohio...

Michelle found it..... Do you feel betrayed by ActiveRain?

The point of it is I am paying for sponsorships out of loyalty to ActiveRain. Nothing more.  Based on the rude comments from the ActiveRain Community Builders I may rethink paying for sponsorships out of loyalty or contributing to ActiveRain.

I think maybe they need to put in the words "Read More" at the bottom for the sponsors? I'd make a suggestion but Brad and Rich Community Builders take everything I say as complaining about ActiveRain so I am minding my own business from now on.

No more.  Based on Rich J's advice I dropped the Localism sponsorships yesterday they took them down and hopefully are refunding the payment they took for January sponsorship on January 7. I am no longer sponsoring Columbus, Worthington, Old Worthington, Clintonville or Polaris on Localsm.

Localism is still not out of beta, does not allow comments, did not update for about a month (thanks for reminding me Michelle.)
