Franklin North Carolina

Tucked away in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains lies the animated town of Franklin. Surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest in Western North Carolina, Franklin is best known for its gem mines, its quilt and crafts stores, and its history and heritage. While Franklin is home to only about 3,500 residents, nearly 33,000 people live in other small towns surrounding the Macon County community. In the spring, summer and fall months the population nearly doubles as vacation homeowners take advantage of the temperate climate and beautiful scenery. Franklin's geographical position enables its residents to enjoy cool summer nights and mild winters. Thanks to Macon County's mixture of tourism and industry, Franklin enjoys a strong, diversified economy. The town is large enough to offer its residents most anything and small enough to enjoy a high quality of life. Franklin is surrounded by a number of distinct communities including Cartoogechaye, Cullasaja, Cowee, Otto, Tessentee, Iotla, Ellijay, Patton, Wayah, Mill Creek, Hollysprings, Watauga Vista, East Franklin, Windy Gap, Dowdle Mountain, Lake Emory, Clarks Chapel and Louisa Chapel. Franklin offers plenty of opportunities for recreation including golf, fishing, hiking, white water rafting, canoeing, gem mining, horseback riding, shopping or just the opportunity to sit back and relax. Comfortable, affordable and enjoyable sum up the lifestyle in Franklin. The real estate market is comprised of single-family homes situated on wooded lots with porches providing spectacular views. A few condominiums and townhouses can be found ranging in price from $100,000 up to $225,000 and more for larger models. Single-family homes begin around $90,000 and reach up to $1.6 million and more for large estate properties. Land is available for custom building. Known as the "Gem of the Smokies," Franklin provides an atmosphere of cool mountains, breathtaking sunsets and friendly people. Located just two hours from Atlanta and one hour from Asheville, and about two hours to Pigeon Forge TN.

Franklin is the county seat of Macon County, one of the fastest-growing regions in North Carolina. Macon County also has one of the lowest real estate tax rates in the state. The incredible natural beauty of the county -- coupled with the true, southern hospitality of its residents - are just a few of the reasons Franklin has become so popular.
