Today is a sad day for Carol Stream residents and students and staff of Bartlett High School. Lenny

An announcement was made at school today that Lenny (Leonard) Gulczynski was killed in the line of duty in Iraq.  Lenny is a 2007 Graduate of Bartlett High School and joined the Army at 17.  He followed in the footsteps of his father and others in his family fighting for our Country.

Bartlett High School will have their flag at half-mast in honor of this fallen soldier Friday September 19, 2007. They will also have a photo and wreath at the flagpole for any community members who would like to pay their respects, or leave memorials in honor of Lenny and his bravery.

I did not know Lenny well however, I remember when he played football with my son.  Thank you Lenny for your service and fighting for our Country and our Freedom!

Thank you to everyone who has read this post and offered their condolences and prayers for Lenny and his family.  I have not heard any details of a service yet.  I will post when I learn more.  I am looking for anyone from the Patriot Guards and will also recruit Rescue Riders to ride with Lenny in honor of his service.  Please contact me to arrange the details.

Thanks for keeping this in the forefront of our minds. My father and grandfather served as well. My grandfather was a POW in WWII.  We will never forget.

Thanks for sharing, Kim.  I come from a military family, and my heart just breaks everytime I hear about another young man or woman giving the ultimate sacrifice.  God be with his family.

God bless him and his family.. To give the ultimate sacrifice for ones country is something that must be honored and respected. I can only guess that he was doing what he thought was what was right for the country and OUR wonderful way of life. Things like this make you feel ridiculous for worrying about commissions or fees. Take a minute and remember whats really important!

Steven... You are so right!  There are many things that make me feel ridiculous for worrying about when I think of these men and women and the scarifies they are making for us! Thank you for that reminder!

Kim--

Got to tell you, I went to New York after 9/11. This war is a noble cause, and all who do their part deserve to be honored. I am a Baltimore City Fire Lieutenant and remember the day that started this conflict vividly! I spent the days after these COWARDLY attacks on OUR country waiting to go north and assist FDNY in search and recovery efforts. I remember the names of the firefighters who's memorials and funerals we went to and will NEVER miss an opportunityto remind others of the sacrifice those 343 firefighters that day and soldiers in our military have made every day. Please pass on my most sincere sympathy to the family of this fallen HERO.

We heard of Lenny's passing last night on the news here.  We've lost a lot of good men and women from Fort Lewis in this conflict.  Because of men and women like Lenny, we all have the freedom and opportunity to live our lives in peace and safety.

God speed Lenny Gulczynski.

As unfortunate as it is, war will always be a part of life. It is sad to see so many of our young men and women sent to their death over a pointless (and costly) war. I still don't understand why we even invaded Iraq in the first place. Oh, thats right... weapons of mass destruction which they still haven't found to this day! What a joke. Every soldiers death is a continuous reminder for us all and it makes me feel ashamed to be an American citizen.

My prayers go out to Lenny and his family!

Kim, Thank you for paying tribute to such a young soldier...it is so unfortunate that we are losing our brave men and women...we should ALWAYS remember that someone is out there fighting for OUR freedom...every single day...God Bless You Lenard Gulczynski!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with Lenny and his family, as with all the brave military personnel and their families.  Living in Washington, we have many military bases and have a strong support system to help those who make the sacrifices to keep our country free.  You can get involved by going to www.OperationHomefront.net.  There are chapters all over the U.S. and our mission is to support our troops, the families they leave behind during deployment and our wounded warriors when they return.  It is an all volunteer organization and every chapter needs good volunteers.  You can donate as much or as little time as you can.  and I can tell you 1st hand, having participated in several events for the military, how very much they appreciate everything that's done for them.

Please let's not turn this blog into a place to make political comments but keep it as a wonderful way to remember Lenny and others who give the ultimate sacrifice.

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!  gOD BLESS AMERICA.

Carol - I feel such sorrow and sadness every time I read or hear of the passing of a fallen soldier who has been killed in the line of duty.  As the mother of a soldier who has been deployed four times in the past 6 years, I can't even imagine as a parent the pain and sadness of losing a son.  My thoughts and prayers are with Lenny's family and friends.  God Bless America and all those who have served for our freedom.

Each and every one of these stories saddens me even more. My 23 year old brother will be leaving next week for his first tour in Iraq as a Marine. It will be 7 months of he11 for me awaiting his safe return!

My sister just informed me of the death of Lenny Gulzinski. I did not have the opportunity to know Lenny but I grew up 2 doors away from his father Michael and his grandparents Charolette and Leonard. I remember them as very kind loving people and I am sure that Lenny coming from such a fine family was of the same values. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
