I find it interesting that the number in my area isn't higher.

SC has seen a 13% drop and the Charleston, SC MLS area has dropped only 6%.

I think the reason the number isn't higher is because many people are keeping their license and taking other jobs. Sorry if I step on anyone's toes but I'm a full time REALTOR. I want to be available to prospect. I want to be available to take all my calls. I want to be available to help my client's throughout the day.

7 Comments on What's the percentage change of Realtors in your area?

I believe we have lost about 15% this year but believe it or not we are gaining new ones.I read the state of Florida could lose 40% of their Realtors by the end of 2008? Crazy times! I am also a Full timer and the part timers drove me crazy. Now I see the business changing down here ,some Realtors need that second job to survive and as long as they are available or have someone to cover I think that's okay.

We seem to be holding our own in Green Bay and at times are even increasing our numbers.  We have a few part - timers but they quickly learn that it's not easy serving two masters.

In the Grand Strand Area(Myrtle Beach, SC) we had around 4000 agents last year and the number has dropped to around 1800.  That's a dramatic change.  I feel it's important to be full time.  You owe it to your clients to give them everything you can to help them sell in this market.  But I do understand if some agents cant afford to pay their bills and need to take a second job.  But I think they they should only take on what they can handle to maintain professionalism. Sub par agents don't help our business!

I completely agree! If you're not willing to give it 100% full time, then you're doing a disservice to yourself, your clients and other realtors. No disrespect intended to those that are part time realtors. In the past, when business was booming, there was a call for them. Now, however, everyone looses when you don't give it your all.

I think that we will be seeing a reduction in the number of agents here in Calgary.  With the slowdown in the market as well as the numerous regulatory changes, increased security and we are finally getting a Do Not Call registry here in Canada many agents are resisting the changes and getting fed up with them.  Our new licensing period is at the beginning of next month and we should have some definitive numbers shortly after...it will be interesting to see!!!

In our area the dues are not paid monthly so we will most likely see our drop in January 2009. It will be interesting to see what that number is. Here locally title companies and real estate offices are closing their locations and combining offices.
