Getting "to know" a city.

By
Real Estate Agent with Rector Hayden, Lexington, Ky

My wife Kathy and I just arrive in the beautiful city of Lexington Kentucky nine days ago.  We have been staying with our children but don't want to overstay our welcome so will be moving into extended stay on Monday.  There are so many details to take care of and our hearts desire is to get "to know" the city by knowing the people.  My coach and mentor Dan Evered is without doubt the most gifted person I have ever known in pursuing relationships with the intent of genuinely "knowing" a person.  Dan is so intentional pursuing relationships with honor and respect and I have learned so much through our relationship. The pictures below are of the Henry Clay Estate, a horse at Keeneland Race Track  and Rupp Arena home of the Wildcats.

I suspect most of the time I use the word "know" it is mostly meant to convey that I know "of" something.  Kathy and I want "to know" the people in a way so that we have mutual trust and respect.  When your child obeys you without question or contempt you have evidence that they trust your judgement and respect your authority.  We can know about the community but "to know" the community is to trust our lives with the people in the community.

Kathy and I believe in order "to know" the people of Lexington we need to build strong, lifelong relationships.  So with that purpose we began by looking for people in the business community.   Kathy began by searching for a local bank.  We are so pleased to have found Traditional Bank.  They are located only in Kentucky.  First of all they are very personable.  They remembered Kathy's name when she returned the first time.  They know the people of Kentucky.  They did not get involved in poor lending practices.  They currently are giving us 3.4 percent on our checking account for 90 days while we are buying a home.  We met with a personal banker, Miller Wilson who told us his story almost immediately and we came away feeling as if we had began a journey that would allow us "to know" Miller.  We are excited be begin "to know" our  community.
