The Sweetest Little Shop in Town!  Whether you have a Raging Sweet Tooth - or you have a love for ALL Things British - this is the Shop for You!  Another place in Chilliwack to Come and explore ...

For Fred and Anne Hails who hold court in this All Things British Emporium.....This is a Dream Come True...Albeit a retirement dream that rapidly grew from a 2 day a week hobby - to a 6 day a week - thriving business with a  British staff of 12!  Today they are proud to offer a true destination experience!

Walking through Dickens Sweet Shop and Museum is like walking through a miniature English Village - And what could be more yummy then a Penny Candy Store?

You'll feel like a kid in a candy store and with over 200 glass jars of candies to tempt you....you're forewarned....you won't be able to choose!  What a terrific place to bring your kids or grandchildren for a treat!  From jelly babies and bon bons to pear drops, flying saucers and licorice pipes...AND rows and rows of British chocolates and fudge bars...

For the diet conscious or diabetic there is a huge selection of sugar free candies, chocolates, fudge, james and jellies.

There's a newly enlarged tea shop now  that has over 70 varieties of loose-leaf teas from around the world such as Taylor's Yorkshire Gold or even an Irish or Scottish blend, and you are sure to be serving a great cuppa!!   There's also a lovely assortment of English bone china tea pots, tea cups and accessories, as well as a nice assortment of recipe books and tea towels from the United Kingdom.

It is said 'To truly enjoy a cup of tea, it should be served in the finest of china'.   Dickens offers a fine selection from the British "brown betty" in many sizes to other uniquely decorated tea sets.

Looking for that perfect gift? The staff will be happy to help you create a gift basket with chocolates, teas, crisps...or a combination of anything else you might find in the store!

Craving a proper English Tea?   Well relax in a unique "pub-style" atmosphere and enjoy mouthwatering 'Taste of Britain" high tea or if you prefer, you can enjoy freshly made scones, Devon cream and strawberry jam by the fireside or challenge a friend to a game of chess!

Then there's Pickwick's Pie Shop - with the most delectable selection of British cheeses as well as British-style bacons and sausages....They even managed to find a reputable and experienced butcher who is well trained in the act of cutting, curing and old country seasoning.

Have you been longing for some real Devon clotted cream?...look no further, they have four varieties!

For the fish lover, they stock Scottish smoked haddock fillets...and for those of you that have longed for a good old-fashioned Marks & Spencer's Melton Mobray pork pie, your search is over, just look in the freezer!

This little shop, just like it's namesake around the corner from Covent Garden in London, is always changing! Seek and you may find a trinket or a treasure, from red hats (Meeting Place of the ladies of Red Hat Fame!) to rattles, clock work toys from China, Gollywogs to gloves, books to beads...

As you enter the museum you will feel like you have truly stepped back in time.  Theres a time warp that begins in Charles Dickens own era of the late 1700's up to the much favored part of the 20th century...the 1960's. Look around and you will find a 8'x20' mural of the immortalized "Old Curiosity Shop" up to the present day replica of the village post office of "Heartbeat" fame!

Dickens Sweet Shop follows the traditions of some of the best British corner shops by bringing you a selections of sweets and groceries, t-shirts and tea towels, hats....and your favorite British Songs cd plus so much more....

Looking for something to do on a Lazy Rainy Day of Autumn?...Park your Brolly and Explore!

That is a really nice post and I agree with Beth...it does make you warm and fuzzy.  It has a very homey feel to it.  I used to love those candy stores when I was a kid where you but one of each kind of candy instead of a whole bag of the same item...nickel candy shops.

Liz - I would be right at home in that community, my earlier years were influence by all things British.  I still have tea several times per day and not with lemon.

Have a great weekend.

WOW - Liz - you tell an incredible story and painted such a vivid picture.  I, too, am a tea drinker and I could all but smell the tea brewing.  Makes me want to open my open candy/tea store here in Phoenix.  - Calie

Hi Liz... what a great post and a great shop!  You paint a picture with your words and then you frame it with your photos.  Of course, nothing that you mention is on my diet, but that's gotta mean it's all YUMMY! :)

Being a person who hasn't missed many candy shops in his time, this looks like a rather large one that if I'm back in B.C. I will have to stop and check out. Vancouver is one of my favorite stops, my wife and I spent our first night of our honeymoon their before heading off towards Banff to spend two weeks camping in the Rockies.

Liz, Dickens Sweets looks like a fabulous store and more. We spent a summer in Kitchener, Ontario about 15 years ago and we were pleasantly surprised at the British influence. I would love to visit Chilliwack, you live in a fascinating area. Thanks for the links too.
