Sally Cheeseman is a wonderful person with a big heart of gold. This post is to pay a special tribute to her because she went out of her way to help me in my time of need.

sally cheeseman Hawaii relocations

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know that I have been struggling with saving our land in Latvia from some Russian mobsters who forged my grandmother's will and who have attained a lien on our property. We inherited this property when my grandmother died.

You can read about our family's legal journey to keep our land by clicking here.

In our last court hearing the bad guys had gone into our court file and stole all of our records so that they could tell the judge that we should lose now. You can click to read my part 2 about our land struggle with Latvia.

Our attorney in Latvia just informed us that the judge wants to see a marriage record from my first marriage.Latvian women keep their maiden names so the judge does not understand why I changed my name 2 times.  I got married in Hawaii. These documents have to be apostilled for the country in which you are sending them to.

So I emailed Sally asking if there was any way that she could drive  downtown to the State capital for me and help me out with this. I found out that if I did it online, it could take at least 5 to 6 weeks to have my marriage record aposstiled.

Sally called me within minutes and told me to get her all the paperwork I need to get from there and that she would make the trip down there for me. I know this is going out of her way because I lived in Hawaii. When I lived there the traffic was not as bad as it can be now downtown.  Traffic and traveling time is relative. What is a lot of time and traffic in Miami is totally different than Oahu. But in spite of the incovenience Sally helped me. She did not have to do this. But she did. This speaks volumes that who she is online is also who she is offline.

After she waited in line for 20 minutes to get my marriage record they tell her she can't just take the record to get it apostilled. She has to come back when they call her in about a week to pick it up and take it to the State Capital and get the apostille done there. So she will need to drive back down there again.

I am so blessed that Sally stepped up to help because if I had to do this through the mail it would be back in time for me to get it to Latvia in time for court! Thank you Sally Cheeseman! Here's your orchid!

Katerina, your ordeal sounds like something out of a movie.

Thank you Katerina for "spilling the beans" on Celeste!  I knew it; I just knew it:

Celeste is the Real Thing!  Wow!  What a friend!  There are very few people like Celeste out there.  That's why we all love her!

BTW, this is now a featured post on the Optimist Board.  Having the right role models is an important element in fostering a winning attitude...

Sally is terrific. When our daughter who had moved to Hawaii had to go to an emergency hospital the first 2 weeks of being there for an appendix operation, we were worried about the hospital and if it was good, and we sent off an e-mail to Sally who was reassuring that it was indeed a good hospital. She even offered , to drive to the hospital if there was anything she could do. All went well with the appendix surgery and we did not have to have Sally racing about town, but all the same, it was wonderful to be able to reach out and have her respond in such a loving fashion. She is the best. Thanks for telling the world how wonderful she is.

Hi Katerina - time and time again, we see the special value there is in the relationships we've developed by being part of AR.  So glad you had someone to give you a hand in this terrible ordeal you're having to go through.  I wish you the very best in this court case - I hope you triumph over those awful thieves.

Wow! I knew Sally was lovely from comments from Desiree (funny, how only first names suffice on AR even in a community of over 100K), but this story just made me glow.  God bless you all that your intentions are realized (Katerina, Nestor and Sally)!  All good done comes back around.

First I can't believe you're still fighting for that land, I would have thought it settled by now.  Reading this, and how Sally went down there for you is a testament for sure of the kind of person she is.  Like so many here, the relationships we've built are real ones......and as you saw you can really count on her when needed. I knew about Sally going down to get your paper, but I didn't know about the incident Bob & Caroline mentioned.

I'm glad to call her my friend :)

Katerina - Now that's what I call the power of the Active Rain community.  Sally was one of the first blogs I came across when I joined Active Rain and could immediately tell what a wonderful person she is.  We are so fortunate to have the ability to reach out to one another in a time of need. Sally went above and beyond and your specil tribute to her is well deserved.

Wow, that's awesome! Sally is a true friend and a great person. One thing I remembered as a negative (and there weren't any others) was the traffic on Oahu. ANd, I am remembering back about 15 years.

Everyone! Thanks for such nice, supportive and wonderfully warm comments to Sally and to me. We are very busy getting ready for this trial. Everyday there is something else one of us comes up with that will help establish our case. The trial date is on our election day. I am going to go and vote early like tomorrow so I don't miss an important call from Latvia telling me we won the case!

wow! Great recognition here - love the support on & off of Active Rain! We're new to the community & had noticed Sally's presence almost immediately;

1) Because she's from Hawai'i (!!) and

2) Because Sally is such an active, creative & all around great Blogger!

The Aloha spirit seeps through her writing - and the effects she has on others online & offline is great to hear about. It's inspiring & makes us want to "follow" her success even more!

. ..Getting more excited & more involved by the second with encouraging posts like this. Katerina, good luck with the legal "drama" ~ our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family!

This is an awesome post. Sally is one of those incredibly big-hearted, helpful people. And you're right. This is a good example that proves that who she is online is the same as who she is offline. I remember your posts about trying to save your grandmothers' land. I hope you're successful in this. It's so different that what we expect as Americans. I hope you're able to proceed with peace in your heart.
