Humboldt County Ca, A Great Travel Destination According to the New York Times

It's great to see that the New York Times thinks Humboldt County California is a great place to travel to. I love when we hit national news. It's just fun to see that we really aren't as remote as people think we are. Because as far as I'm concerned Humboldt County is one of California's best kept secrets for affordable coastal living, and outdoor attractions:

1) Walk for miles on many of our untouched (undeveloped) beaches or get adventurous and head to some of the more rockier shores North of Eureka.

2) The great Ancient Redwoods are always inspiring. Redwood National Park Humboldt County California

3) Water sports, hiking, climbing? You name it, we got it!

Beth Greenfield wrote the article about her travels through Humboldt County California. Definitely check this out. She did a great job describing her trip (it was like reading a passage from Lonely Planet or the Frommer's Guide...very descriptive), just check out the first sentence of the article...WOW!:

"ALONG California's mystical redwood coast, 1,000-year-old trees as much as four times the height of the Rockefeller Center Christmas spruce command rocky bluffs that overlook golden, frothy beaches."

Jessica, I love the redwoods, I am originally from Norhtern CA. I can remember being really little and looking up at them and thinking they could touch the stars.

Jane - Yeah! Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I can't believe I'm so lucky to be able to live in such a cool place and have the Redwoods only a 30 minute drive from my house. Those ancient trees are absolutely incredible.

My husband and I took a week off last summer and did a trip up the coast. We drove from Sacramento to Mendocino and headed north on Highway 1. There are a bazillion hikes available in the national and state parks, and we took advantage of many of them. This was right after Lady Bird Johnson had died, so when we saw a sign for Lady Bird Johnson Grove, we pulled off the road and hiked the trail. I think this was the Redwood National Park. About halfway through the trail is an open area with a plaque in the grove commemorating the dedication ceremony -- when Nixon dedicated the grove in 1969 to Lady Bird Johnson -- and Nixon had been there that day, along with Lyndon Johnson and Ronald Reagan.

A few people had placed flowers on the plaque. Made me cry.

Elizabeth - I've been up to that grove and your right it is part of Redwood National Park. It's an incredible place! And so much meaning behind it too. What a way to remember an incredible lady. I would have cried too.
