How We Communicate

By
Real Estate Agent with United Real Estate Dallas TREC# 0544069

As Realtors, we communicate with clients verbally and non verbally. We must remember that we send and receive messages in different ways:

  • 7% of our message is expressed by the words that we use.
  • 38% of our message is delivered by the tone, volume, pitch and tempo of our spoken words.
  • 55% of what we say is communicated by non-verbals and body language, including facial expressions, body movement, gestures, breathing, spatial relationships, and so much more.

Clients often send us conflicting messages when their nonverbal cues do not match their verbal communication. It is our challenge, as Realtors, to decipher those messages, so that we can better serve their needs. We must be communication detectives to uncover our their buying and selling interests and needs!

Communication detectives. Ooooooooooooh, I like that.

I learned learned 15-30-55, but the message is the same. Emails and text exacerbate the problem. Even here at Active Rain, with the lack of emoticons and smileys, it often requires us to be communication detectives.

"Decipher" being the key word. Good post. Short and to the point.

Sharon, oh so true. In this age of Internet and emails it is sometimes very difficult to bring in that human aspect that is so very much needed in our communications.
