Visitors To The Garden!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Positive Real Estate Professionals

Near the end of this past August, I wrote a post entitled The Pollinators. In that post I used pictures I had taken to highlight the bees and wasps that have helped to make my garden so successful. When I was taking those pictures for that post, I took note of some of the other inhabitants of my garden.

The garden is pretty well secured from larger animals like deer and raccoons, and the smaller animals like rabbits and chipmunks. Other visitors however make their way through the two foot high chicken wire that is attached to the vinyl lattice encircling the garden. I was only able to capture a couple of visitors when I took these pictures. I hope you enjoy them.

Yuck!  I absolutely hate snakes and spiders...  Necessary evils, though...  What kind of snake is that?  We found a 4' rattler coiled up in an Agapanthus plant 10 ft from our back door this summer.  Fortunately, our Jack Russell found it first and warned us.

Chris - LOL! Sorry about that Chris! Orb weavers make these beautiful webs that are as close to the traditional Halloween webs as you can get. The spider is actually quite beautiful with the bright yellow and black. There were actually three of these in different places in the garden over the summer. This is the only one that is still around.

Sherry - Spiders do help to keep the insect populations in check. That second picture is of a frog <<<smile>>> Glad you were able to avoid a run in with a rattler! We have timber rattlers here, though I luckily have not seen one; Yes my fingers are crossed.

How wild. I saw this same exact kind of spider this summer as well and took a video of it. I recently used that video in one of my YouTube shorts. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz2OmOwdPh0 Do you know what kind of spider it is? Very strange looking.

BK - Thanks for the compliment on the photo. Spiders can be creepy.

Exotic photos from Borneo - Thanks!

Henson Ray - Your video is hysterical! I will check back often for new ones. I have always heard them called orb weavers but that may just refer to the elaborate webs they weave.

Rich, pleasant surprises make gardeing even more fun. That spider (it's name escapes me) weaves one of the most impressive webs in nature and the frog.....pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.

Rich, Great shots.  The frog I can deal with, but the spider was a bit much.  Wow, was that thing as big as it looked, or just the way the photo was taken, and is it poisonous???

Rich, beautiful spider, but I'm scared -another reason to wear my gloves in the garden! Love the frog photo and it's camoflage effect.

Bo - I think they are called orb weavers but I'm sure they have some 15 to 20 letter scientific name too <<<smile>>> The web is probably at least two feet square if not bigger.

Bob - It is pretty good size, about four inches long and at least 2 to 2.5 inches wide! Not sure if they are poisonous to humans.

Debbie - Gloves are good (read in Mr. Mackey voice from Southpark). I actually have to reach around the web to get the whopper tomatoes; believe me I try my best not to disturb it.

Joan - I could photograph the wild animals and other creatures that move in to the abandoned REOs.

I know they are supposed to be beautiful and helpful with annoying pests, but I just cannot seem to fall in love with spiders - great pictures though

James - I'm not a fan of spiders but I do admire the colors and form of the spider. No way I'm getting any closer to it!
