Safety Frist...but where is it?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Cascade Real Estate

We are in a profession that from time to time suffers a loss of a Realtor due to some creepo out there that decided on an apparently easy target. There are lots of things we can do to make our jobs safer and NOT turn clients away. But do we? Here are a few ideas:

New client? Always meet at the office not the property. Before leaving take a copy of their drivers license and leave it with your reception staff.

Impossible to meet at the office? (You should be concerned with why) If you don't know the person take another Realtor with you or even a spouse or someone.

Follow them into the house and at the bedroom remain in the hall so you don't find a door slammed and you trapped.

If things start to get freaky call your office and ask for someone to come out. Some offices have code words that will dispatch the Broker or someone else from the office.

These are just a couple ideas. I am open for a few more.

Perrin.... I haven't seen this issue brought up while here on AR... but some good points. I did tell a client that I would meet them in West Philly one year, but in the day time. As of today, Philly and West Philly are leading '07 in homicides.
