This is the final "installment" of my family trip photos from our recent visit to Houston (pre-hurricane).  We spent our last day at the Houston Zoo, which was a lot of fun for the whole family.  Unfortunately, the last time I went there, my cell phone was stolen from my van, so if you visit, I would encourage you to lock your doors.

The zoo is located on the southern edge of downtown, across from Rice University, in Hermann Park.  Here's their website if you are interested in checking it out for yourself: http://www.houstonzoo.org/.

Here's a self-portrait of sorts with Abby in my lap:

This next picture was taken when all three of our kids were inside the piranha tank.  Actually there is a large tube in the tank for kids to explore.  I was a little too tall to participate, but it seemed very cool.  They stayed in there for quite awhile.

Aleah holding her nose sort of sums up the experience near the flamingos, which I called the "stinky flaminkies".  Needless to say, this went over very well with my kids.  Brandon has quite the poker face.

We had to walk a LONG way to get to the petting zoo, which is near the back of the zoo, sort of by itself.  The main attraction was a lamb, and there were a few very sad looking goats.  However, Abby enjoyed it immensely, which is really all that mattered.

Overall, it was a fun way to spend our last day in Houston.  I would recommend it if you have a chance.  We were all pretty tired that night, since we drove straight home after the zoo closed (about three hours or so).

Thanks for reading about our day!

When I was growing up I never went to a zoo until I moved in with my older brother and his wife for a while.  I was 13 and his wife took us to the zoo in Memphis, TN probably once a week since we were so close.  I love the animals and so does my son so I try to take him at least once a year to either the Phoenix or Tucson zoos.  It looks like you guys had fun.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jason... What a good looking family and it looks like y'all had a fun day at the zoo (especially Abby).  I have to agree with the others who have mentioned how much Brandon resembles you.

Jason,

I actually like the zoo...we used to take my daughter to parrot jungle and the Miami Zoo. When we were in AZ we tried to go but when we got there most of the animals were inside...it was way too hot in June for them and for my daughter and wife...I actually didn't mind the hike...now my kid is too old for it.

Houston Zoo is fabulous!  When we lived in Houston, we used to take our kids to the zoo and would always ride the train in Hermann Park too.  Is the train still there??

Hi Jason, so nice of you to share a little of you with us.  I enjoyed seeing the photos of you and your family and remember my childhood trips to the zoo.  There's just something so special about taking kids to a place like this and watching them with their wide eyes discover and "see" things that sometimes as adults we can't see.  Sharing these kind of moments with them is precious and knowing the little bit I do about you through your writing I'm gathering that it was just as special for you.  Thanks again for sharing. ~ Anne Marie

Jason, what did you think about the incredible ELEPHANT exhibit that they just opened?  I don't know how much they spent, but if you get there at the right time, they pull all those elephants in and give them their bath and nail cleanings and such...you're litterally about 5 feet away from those amazing animals!

Next up on the list for the Houston Zoo is the African exhibit and arrival of Gorillas sometime in the next year or two!

BTW, if you buy a membership to the zoo, you can use it at about 200 zoos and other parks nationwide through their reciprocation program!

Sorry about your cell phone.  We go about twice a month with my 2 year old and we did have an incident one time where someone broke in and stole my GPS unit.  HOWEVER, I noticed a much increased police presence there today when we went!

Jason,

These are always my favorite types of "posts"(notice the usage) to do and to read.  Family days, weeks, etc. are always entertaining and it is neat to see how other families spend their time together.  Thanks for posting and you have some great looking kids there.

Going to the Zoo was one of my favorite daytrips with my kids when they were little....Over the years it was the one place that ALL kids consistently loved going to..........Last year when we went to Hawaii for my 50th - the 3 of them -  as young adults - guess were they all wanted to go?  The Honolulu Zoo! :-)

Jason my friend...

I was being lax with my posting, and then the hurricane hit, WOW!  Good thing you got your trip in when you did.  Over 2 MILLION people without water, still have over 600,000 without.  Galveston is like a war zone.  Still working on how to get the stupid html code for the slide show, but here's a picture to show your kids.

jason

This is in the slide show, it really turned out cute...too bad no one can see it but me :-).

Stay happy & healthy, L

I think I found a post of yours a few days ago, but I can not find it now.  I am trying to figure out at the bottom how you have you name, a good search phrase and then your company name.  I think you had a blog about that.  Please direct me to the blog or let me know.  Thanks,
