A Dog Day Afternoon in Newport Shores One of the many benefits in living in Newport Shores is the Canal that surrounds the area. The Canal is fed by the ocean, and the water level goes up and down with the tide. Many people who have lived in Newport Beach do not even realize that it exists. There are homes in Newport Shores that are built right along the Canal. The streets in Newport Shores that have homes on the Canal are Canal Street, Canal Circle and 62nd Street. The homes on Canal Street and Canal Circle have views to the west with sunset views. There is also a predominant ocean breeze that typically comes from the west. The homes that are located on 62nd Street have morning sunshine, and look to lush landscaping and greenery. The lot sizes on 62nd Street are typically the larger lots for Newport Shores, however that can vary. The homes that are built on the Canal have decks to enjoy the sunshine and beach weather. When the weather is sunny and warm, and the tide is high, it is a great time to enjoy the Canal. Many residents and children kayak, paddle board, and explore. There is a bird preserve across from the Canal and it is typical to see many different species of birds including blue and white herons, ducks, sea gulls and pelicans seem to frequent the Canal in the winter months (usually around February). Here are some photos of a dog day afternoon in Newport Shores. Patrick (my dog) loves to chase a stick. He had a great time swimming with the kids, and chasing his stick!!! Patrick is holding his favorite stick and I think he left it under someone's deck. There have been geese that lived in the Canal and beautiful swans (who seem to come and go). There are ducks that are very friendly, and here are some babies. They almost took food right out of your hand. And of course the kids have a blast in the Canal! Newport Shores is a unique beach area, that offers activities for all. From a Canal day to walking across the street to enjoy the beach, Newport Shores is a desirable place to live. Newport Shores also has a community pool, tennis court, basketball court, and a sand volley ball court. Now that's a dog day afternoon that I could deal with. Looks like a wonderful place to live...especially for Patrick! :-)
Sharon, What a gorgeous area! I could see spending a week there....or a month :) And enjoying every second of it.
Jim - it was really an awesome afternoon - even though fall is in the air for sure, the weather was awesome and a fun day!
Carole - thanks - it really is a nice area that is unique. Most people don't even know about it . . .
We took our dog to the water for the first time and decided to play fetch. Our stupid dog is scared of any water over 6 inches deep! It was funny to watch, but for the first time we couldn't even get her to chase anything in to the water including real bone!
Beautiful photos, Sharon! It certainly looks like a lovely place to call home.
Jo
Todd - sometimes it takes dogs time to get used to swimming - my friend had a dog who would not go in the water, but she learned from the other dogs.
Jo-Anne, it really is a nice area, and a lot of people are not aware of it.
Sharon ~ What a beautiful place to live and what great photos, one and all. My dogs all love to swim at Powell, Takes the little ones a few minutes to remeber they like it. The kids are all getting older so they now not only play at Lake Powell but work as well.
Heather - thanks for the compliment. I also take my dog down to the beach (he goes in the waves - he looks like a seal!!!).
I love Lake Powell, and need to come out for a visit!
Sharon, I love your canal day photos. Patrick can really carry a big stick. If you all are having fun it is a great day!!
That looks like a wonderful waterfront area ...and just look at your poochie and kids playing. Yup,...for those hot summer days...take a dive!
Gary - it was a really fun day, and the kids all had a blast. And Patrick can carry a big stick!
Sally - we had a great time, then my dog swam across the Canal and loves to chase birds - unsuccessful though!
I, for one, am very familiar with the Shores. Growing up there, I lived on Prospect, Canal, Lugonia and Cedar. It is a great place, and your pictures make it shine.
Sharon .. nice post about dog days at Newport Shores .. it looks like you and your kids has some fun too. Harrison
Christine - I live in the Shores and love it here. It was like summer last weekend!!!
