Simply speaking, wall-to-wall carpeting is a disaster.  It never stays clean, traps all kinds of allergens and dirt (which spew into the air to be inhaled if not vacuumed with a HEPA filter), it promotes mold growth (especially in basements), it off-gasses all sorts of bad chemicals, and when it is finally done wreaking its havoc in your house, it piles up in landfills NOT decomposing.  Carpet behaving badly.

Then there is FLOR.  If your space absolutely demands carpet, you must check these out... carpet tiles that are available in all sorts of great colors and textures, are non-toxic, formaldehyde-free, and anti-microbial.  Even better, if a tile gets stained, you can wash it off in the sink.  If you must replace a tile, just buy a new one, instead of ripping out an entire room for one bad stain.  Best of all, the company will pick up your used tiles FOR FREE and recycle them into new tiles.  (p.s. no commission on this product for me.)  :)

There is a wide range of cost per square foot, but does include some economical options.  Beside, if we pay a little more upfront, we avoid paying dearly AND environmentally later on.

For more information, see the FLOR marketing email below.  Or log onto www.flor.com directly.  It has tons of choices, even outdoor carpet, plus design tools to create your own very cool area rugs and wall-to-wall masterpieces.

Sounds very interesting! Good post!

I hate carpets.  We've ripped almost all of the carpets out of our house but have put hardwood down.

Thanks for introducing me to a new product. I've never been a fan of carpet for many reasons. Isn't nice to see people looking into alternatives?

Lisa~

I love the notion of "carpets behaving badly"..I had to laugh when I read that phrase. Whenever I think about replacing carpets, I know exactly what you mean! Thanks for the information...and I want to know more about radiant floor heat and  carpet alternatives...from YOUR perspective!

Several years ago I saw a program about "healthy homes".  There was a huge segment regarding carpet and all of the issues you mentioned in your post above.  It was because of the information I gained in that program that I decided to rip out the carpet in our home and replace with tile.  I must say that every time I sweep the floor, I'm happy I made the change.  This FLOR product is great and I'm going to order their catalog out of interest in using it in my media room for the kids.  Thanks for providing the information.

I don't like carpets -- however, sometimes it is nice with a 2 story home and there are little ones running around above!  I will hav to check this out -- it looks like you can grow vegetables on your carpet as well!

Lisa,

That is a wonderful idea. I will remember Flor next time.

I was actually thinking outdoor carpeting would be your suggestion!!  hehe!

Joan, loved the humor about the vegetables- funny, I kinda thought that too.

Thank you for all of your comments thus far.

JaneAnne - I LOVE radiant heat.  My own next home will have only radiant.  Healthiest, most comfortable and most like nature.  Nothing better when you are chilly then standing near the south-facing window and feeling that warm solar heat radiating on your body. Of course, radiant heat that is solar powered is even better.

Joan - LOL - now you can have eco-friendly carpet and grow vegetables in your living room!

Guy - good news.  FLOR just introduced outdoor carpet tiles as well.  Some very fun and funky styles.

Thanks for the great product information. This company sounds like they are following William McDonoughs' philosophy of Cradle to Cradle. I like support those kinds of companies.

Lisa:

This is win-win-win all the way around.  Thanks for the information.

I've always been a thrifty gal, and have always appreciated the outdoors and nature.  So green is in my blood.  I've partnered with other stagers on jobs and been dismayed at the waste I've seen.  Each of us has the responsibility to leave the smallest footprint possible on this earth as citizens, but I've always believed that BUSINESSES have the greater burden.  Even our small businesses, in our small industry, can make a difference....one space at a time!

Regards!

Good morning. Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it. Help me! I find sites on the topic: Hollow man the complete motion picture score. I found only this - call center jobs in orlando florida. Directory listings for commercial banks in edmonton, alberta. Commercial loans property for sale real estate management. Thank  Vanessa from Andorra.
