Clue: Yes, the gutter spike is bent, but the real issue is in the gutter.

Answer: Look at how much accumulation of shingle granulation is present in the gutter. This is a good indication of the deterioration of the shingles on the roof. Next look up at the darker lower edge of the first row of shingles. The dark area is where the granules have departed the most, leaving exposed felt material. A sure sign these shingles are nearing the end of their useful life expectancy.

Granules often wash away from a certian section of roof that is exposed to overhead downspout discharge. I've seen inspectors report that the whole roof is shot when it isn't.
