Staging has received the endorsement of NAR's economist Jed Smith.

During the keynote session at the             Massachusetts Assn of Realtors

Massachusetts Assn of Realtors Convention 9/22/08

NAR

NAR's economist Jed Smith, Managing Director for Quantitative Research, gave 2 pieces of advice to Realtors during this financial crisis:

"Add Value to your services:
1.  Marketing - realistic pricing
2.  Staging - how many times do you make a first impression." Jed Smith, Chief Economist & Managing Director for Quantitative Research for NAR.

This was included in part of Jed Smith's powerpoint presentation and live webcast from Washington.

NOTE:  Staging is discussed 14 minutes into this video.

UPDATE:  This can be an important marketing piece for your presentations with Realtors - edit it onto your flash drive and it speaks volumes with Broker Owners.

Hey Margaret - thanks for the heads up - can you post the link to the article?

It makes sense to stage in a compeitive market but the reaction I am seeing from Realtors is that even staging may not help when they aren't getting any showings due to the credit crisis ...most people are out of the market until the proposed bailout gets sorted out and there is more certainty about where the market is going (if that is possible).

Wendy, Kathy & Maureen:  NAR told us it would be on today - but I don't see it either.  When it gets up I will link it in.

Anne:  Maybe the key word in your statement is:  most people.  Even in a financial crisis like the one we are in now, people are still looking at properties.  I was staging this afternoon and there was a showing - as my one of my favorite builders used to say:  There is an a** for every seat ;)

Gotta LOVE this! It's about time - and it doesn't take a financial crisis for staging to be a necessary part of a RE transaction. Thanks for sharing Margaret!

Hi Margaret,

I've heard that banks are even begining to pay for staging! Will wonders ever cease?

Hello Margaret, hope your doing well.  This is very encouraging.  More and more Linda is asked by Real Estate leaders in our area to include hard hitting messages in her training sessions about the importance of Realtors understanding and using Staging as part of their services.  Very encouraging indeed.

Thanks for this excellent news, Margaret - Can we presume Jed Smith will be spreading this message across the states?  NAR support for staging from the top down could help our message that's coming from the bottom up.  Happy Staging - Julie

Excellent!  I haven't watched the video yet, but I am going to right now!  I particularly love the quote since it kind of uses my company's name in it.... lol.... "First Impressions" that is...

Margaret...Thanks for this. It is very informative and we were just talking yesterday about the media making things so much worse by all their hype and negative coverage.  They sure don't cover stories like this.
