Double Up Your Volunteerism!!

Have You Ever Tried to Multi-task Your Volunteerism?

Recently, I wrote a post called How do you Decide Where to Volunteer? There are so many worthy causes and I was overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of you who wrote lengthy comments to share your volunteerism. It made me proud to be associated to you by profession and ActiveRain.

As we all know, volunteering has its cost. We only have 24 hours in a day. Those hours must be carefully divided between family, business, sleep, and everything else.  So we learn to multi-task.

I multi-task as much as possible to get everything done.

  •
    •
      • network while socializing
      • clean while cooking
      • walk the dog while exercising
      • do laundry while posting

So why not multi-task Volunteerism? Right?

So, Here is the Plan

I've arranged for my daughter's Girl Scout troop to tour the Montgomery County Animal Shelter

The girls will learn about over population and prevention of animal cruelty and the shelter will receive much needed supplies and funds that the girls will collect prior to the shelter tour.

Its a Win-Win Situation!

So be creative, think about ways you can combine your favorite charities for a win-win situation.  After all the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Amanda, I  have two kids and they both love animals. So we foster dogs and volunteer at the shelter.

Great idea -- we did this a bout a year ago -- when we brought our pet partner teams into Nashua mediation to demonstrate how therapy dogs can be helpful in divorce mediaitons.  Nice idea!

Multi-tasking is key in this world we live in today... everything is so fast paced... great ideas to combine volunteering, among other things into our every day lives.  Sometimes we get so consumed that we forget to stop and help our fellow humans out!  After all, we are Human Beings... be-ings, being the key word there :)

Have a successful day!

Mary, thanks for sharing. I am actually reading your previous post now. I am also a strong believer of volunteerism. Let me know when you find some fancy causes other than girls scout.

Huiting, there are tons of fancy and not so fancy ideas for volunteering. My husband is the executive director of a non profit call Urban Harvest which promotes community gardening. So you could say  volunteering a family affair.

Mary, good idea.  I'm a big muti-tasker myself.  Guess I never though of volunteering and doing something else at the same time, but it maks so much sense.

Mary...   Great idea and yes I do alot of multi-tasking in volunteering.  With two kids, two different schools, I am everywhere and that's how I want it to be.  Keeps me involved with there activities and yet allows me to work my real estate skills.  :)

Mary  ... you are so right about multi-tasking!   That is awesome the Girl Scouts are going to help the Animal Shelter.  My 14 year old fell in love with every single animal there last week!  Keep up the good work!

Fostering animals for us is a family project, we all work on it together and usually try to make some kind of contact with the adopting family to know they have arrived safe and are happy. It's good community service for scouts. My daughter is also using it for 4-H.
